On Wednesday, news hit that both Alberto Del Rio and Paige were suspended by WWE for 30 days. The two superstars were reportedly in violation of the company’s Wellness Policy and would begin serving their suspensions as of Thursday, August 18th. The suspension basically means that neither superstar will be seen on or at the next few pay-per-views, or on television for the next month.
For Paige, that has been the case for weeks now due to real life injury. She’s been still traveling with the WWE as they are filming parts for the E! reality show “Total Divas.” She was selected by Raw in the 2016 WWE Draft but has yet to appear on the television show. Del Rio was selected by Smackdown Live and has actually appeared. In fact, Del Rio was in the main event match last night where he lost to John Cena. Del Rio also had a backstage exchange involving AJ Styles who mentioned that Del Rio isn’t even on the SummerSlam card.
While SummerSlam is a co-branded pay-per-view, the August pay-per-view, Backlash, will be primarily a Smackdown event. It’s scheduled for September 11th in Richmond, Virginia and it seems that Del Rio won’t have any involvement in the event. For Paige, WWE probably realizes she is among the more popular individuals on their “Total Divas” program, so it’s possible she’ll still be seen in segments on that going forward.
This raises a bunch of questions. Among them is of course what were these two doing? Was it being done together? Was it intentionally done to piss off the WWE? Also, is Del Rio close to being cut from the company? It’s the first violation for both of these stars, who just so happen to be dating but there’s rumors involving Del Rio and a higher up.
There’s been backstage word that Triple H isn’t too “high” on Del Rio (no pun intended) and wants him out. For Paige, she’s been trying to recover from some tough injuries which have really set her back. This latest incident sets them both back a bit more, but they’ll be able to enjoy one another’s company for the next month, at the least.
