WWE SmackDown Results 12/27/16 for Chicago, IL Episode

Welcome to the WWE SmackDown results for the Tuesday, December 27, 2016 episode. This is the final episode of SmackDown for the year 2016 and also features the big return for WWE superstar John Cena. Also on the show are several pivotal matchups including Becky Lynch challenging Alexa Bliss for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship and AJ Styles defending his World Heavyweight title against Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler in a Triple Threat match. In addition, a four team elimination match for the tag team titles will take place. Below are all of the WWE SmackDown results for the latest episode.

wwe superstar AJ StylesJohn Cena’s music hit and he came to the ring to a bunch of boos and then a mixed reaction as he held the mic. He thanked everyone and talked up how people have called him a part timer since he left and said he was going to Hollywood. Cena said he got tired of all the new era BS but now he’s back for the “My Time Is Now Era.” He talked up AJ Styles being great the past year and then said he’s challenging whoever wins the championship match tonight at the Royal Rumble.

Rhyno and Slater were eliminated via pinfall by The Usos after Jimmy hit a big Superkick and covered Slater for the pin.

The Usos were eliminated second via pinfall by American Alpha after Jordan cleared Jimmy from the ring and Gable got a rollup on Jey.

American Alpha pinned Luke Harper and Randy Orton to become new WWE SmackDown tag team champions. Late in the match, Harper and Orton had some confusion and ended up colliding in the corner as Harper tried to assist Orton. Jordan speared Orton down. Orton was hit by the Grand Amplitude and then Chad Gable pinned him to win the championships.

Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch to retain the WWE SmackDown Women’s championship. Late in the match, La Luchadora made an entrance and made a distraction for Alexa. Later, Becky put the DisarmHer on but Alexa got to the ropes. On the outside of the ring, Luchadora ran Becky into the post head first. Back in the ring, Alexa hit a DDT to get the pinfall win.

There was a backstage interview with Renee Young talking to The Miz. She asked him some halfhearted questions and then suddenly Dean Ambrose showed up to attack Miz. He kept up the beatdown until some security rushed in to break things up.

AJ Styles defeated Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Late in the match, Corbin tried for End of Days on Styles but Ziggler jumped on his back and hit an End of Days/Zig Zag combo move. Styles covered Corbin for a near fall. Later, Corbin put Ziggler on the top rope, and they fought until Ziggler got free. Dolph got onto his feet on the top rope, but Corbin knocked him down. Corbin hit End of Days, but AJ hit a Phenomenal Forearm on Corbin to clear him out of the ring. Styles pinned Ziggler to get the win.

Post-match, Cena ran down to the ring and took off his shirt to stare down Styles. AJ held the championship belt up. Cena put out his hand and had words with Styles, asking him to show some respect. Eventually, Styles put the title down in between them on the mat and finally shook Cena’s hand. Cena told him he knows he’s taking that from him and Styles said it wasn’t going anywhere.
