Welcome to the WWE SmackDown results for the Tuesday, November 1, 2016, episode. This week’s show was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Among the superstars appearing on this latest episode were AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, James Ellsworth and more. Below are all of the latest match-by-match results and highlights for the latest WWE SmackDown show ahead of the upcoming Survivor Series 2016 pay-per-view event.
The opening segment featured James Ellsworth trying to apologize to Dean Ambrose in the ring. AJ Styles came down to interrupt and told Ellsworth that Ambrose has just been using him. He said Ellsworth should blame Ambrose for the disqualification loss in the title match and doesn’t owe him an apology. He told James that if anything he owes him, for his merchandise taking off and for his career. Ambrose got in Styles’ face and said Ellsworth is a real hard worker and doesn’t look for the easy way out. Styles and Ambrose dropped their mics and got face to face. Ellsworth stepped in between them and tried to hold them apart, but Styles shoved him into Ambrose causing Ellsworth to toppled onto him. Ellsworth tried to check on Dean, but AJ grabbed him and tossed him out of the ring. From there, Styles hit the Phenomenal Forearm to level Ambrose and then left the ring.
Ellsworth was backstage with Dean Ambrose and Daniel Bryan. James kept trying to apologize for what happened out there but Dean said there’s nothing for him to say. Daniel told them enough of this. He told Ambrose he gets another shot at AJ Styles, tonight. He said if he beats him, Ambrose is the No. 1 contender for AJ’s title, but this is his last chance. Ambrose nodded, and Ellsworth told him that’s good. Ambrose sort of brushed him off and left. Ellsworth told Daniel he felt bad. Daniel said to sit back and relax. He told Ellsworth he could hang out backstage and watch the match or around “Talking Smack” but under no circumstances to go out to ringside.
Randy Orton defeated Kane via pinfall in a no disqualification match. A chair came into play early on with Kane smashing it across Orton’s back on the outside. They went back in the ring and Kane hit a huge clothesline in the corner followed by a sidewalk slam. Kane had a chokeslam ready but the Wyatt sound effect hit and the lights went out. When they came back, Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper were standing at the bottom of the ramp staring at Kane. Orton tried to strike with the RKO but Kane shoved him off. Wyatt and Harper yanked Kane by the legs out of the ring. He fought them off on the outside, then punched Orton through the ropes.
Kane regained control in the ring and had a chokeslam ready. Wyatt and Harper came in again, but Kane fought them both off. He had Wyatt in his grasp but Orton struck with the RKO for the pinfall. Post-match, Harper hit a big clothesline to take down Kane then stared at Orton. He pointed to Bray who was sitting in the corner. Harper picked up Kane and was going to give him to Bray, but Orton came over and shoved Kane to Bray for the Sister Abigail. Moments later, Bray knelt over Kane with Harper standing next to him. Orton got on the corner and posed as Bray put his arms out in the crucifix.
Alexa Bliss and Carmella defeated Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella via pinfall. Late in this one, Lynch was able to knock Carmella off the apron. However, Alexa Bliss was right there and raked Becky in the eyes a moment later, then hit a DDT for the win. Post-match, Bliss shoved away an interviewer. Carmella made fun of Bayley and Charlotte from Raw. She told Nikki to know her role and put her on the SmackDown team for Survivor Series. Bliss said Becky’s 15 minutes of fame are over next week and compared herself to the Wicked Witch of WWE, claiming she will get Becky’s title.
Backstage, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon congratulated Naomi as the fifth member of Team SmackDown. She will join Nikki Bella, Carmella, Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch. Naomi said it’s “Glow time.” Natalya came in and asked to be the coach for the team at the PPV. Daniel Bryan said she could be.
American Alpha defeated Spirit Squad via pinfall.
The Miz hosted MizTV with his wife Maryse in the ring. He introduced his guest for the show, SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan. Bryan came out to his theme music and led the crowd in “Yes” chants. Miz interrupted another Daniel Bryan chant in the ring to ask if he could start his show now. The fans chanted “No.” Miz suggested he runs a tight ship on “Miz TV” unlike Bryan and his crew on “Talking Smack.” They got to talking about the Survivor Series. Daniel Bryan brought up the tag team elimination match. Miz interrupted Bryan and asked about the men’s SmackDown Live men’s team. Daniel Bryan said for Team SmackDown it will be Randy Orton, Baron Corbin, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, and AJ Styles. The Miz gave Bryan a look when his name wasn’t announced.
Miz insulted Bryan, telling him to go back to moping around with John Cena on Total Bellas. Bryan blew a gasket and threw his chair down, causing Miz to flee the ring. Maryse also rolled out of harm’s way. Bryan yelled at Miz on the mic to leave the wrestling to the real superstars. He said Dolph Ziggler is out next to defend his Intercontinental title in an Open Challenge.
After commercial, Curt Hawkins came out with a mic in hand and said it was great time to debut here in Atlantic City. He got in the ring and told Ziggler it was time to “face the facts.”
Dolph Ziggler defeated Curt Hawkins via pinfall to retain the Intercontinental Championship. As soon as the bell rang Hawkins turned around from stretching against the ropes. Ziggler connected on a Super Kick and grabbed the pinfall in quick fashion. Post-match, Renee Young interviewed Ziggler in the ring and he called out Miz for saying he’s not a fighting champion. He issued an open challenge to anyone from the Raw roster for Survivor Series.
The Usos defeated The Headbangers via pinfall to claim a Team SmackDown tag team spot at Survivor Series. Usos won in quick fashion with a rollup pinfall.
Backstage, Dean Ambrose saw James Ellsworth hanging out nearby looking dejected. He asked what was going on. Ellsworth begged him to let him come to ringside in some way to try to redeem himself for last week. Ambrose told him no and eventually led him to the door. He told Ellsworth to call an Uber, but to stay away from his match tonight.
Dean Ambrose defeated AJ Styles via pinfall to become No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight title. During the match, things started to go Styles’ way late, as he made a comeback to gain control over Ambrose. Suddenly, James Ellsworth came rushing from out of the crowd and hopped the barricade to be at ringside. He started to pound on the mat and cheer on Ambrose. Ambrose lifted himself from the mat and saw Ellsworth and tried to tell him to get out of there. As Ambrose turned, AJ connected on a Pele Kick for a near fall. Security came rushing down the ramp to chase Ellsworth, who ran back out into the crowd to escape. In the ring, Ambrose nearly captured the pinfall.
The match continued and Ellsworth somehow came back out to ringside. Security came rushing over and captured him this time. Styles was on the apron, ready for a Phenomenal Forearm. Instead, he hopped down as the security guys were hauling Ellsworth away near the announcers table. Styles rushed Ellsworth and shoved him across the announcers table. He went back on the apron and tried for the Forearm, but Ambrose was ready and delivered a kick to the gut and then Dirty Deeds for the win. Post-match, as a worn out Ambrose celebrated the win, Ellsworth was seen being dragged around the ringside area and up the ramp by several security personnel. Eventually they stopped at the top of the ramp. Ambrose went up there and looked down at Ellsworth, smirking. He helped him up and gave him a half hug momentarily, then let Ellsworth drop the ground. Security took hold of Ellsworth as Ambrose’s music played on to close out the show.
