Welcome to the WWE Smackdown results for the Tuesday, August 30th, 2016 episode. This week’s show was held live at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Among the big stories for the show are the continuing tag team title tournament and the women’s wrestlers pushing towards their match for the new title. Below are all of the latest WWE Smackdown results for this week’s episode!
The Miz and Maryse were in ring for the opening segment. Miz chastised the fans for cheering guys who fail after getting opportunity after opportunity. He said he doesn’t get injured and does this night in and night out, year after year. Dolph Ziggler’s music hit and he came out to interrupt. He said Miz made some good points but everyone sees him for what he is: a guy just holding up a title belt and walking down the red carpet trying to be famous. He said each time Miz comes down to that ring he has a chance to prove he’s not a coward. Ziggler said he’ll give him a chance to fight him right now and prove that.
Miz got clearly heated over Ziggler’s comments. He opened the ring ropes for Maryse to leave, then stood back and seemed to unbutton his shirt sleeves for a fight. Instead, he backed out of the ring. From the ringside area, Miz was visibly mad and tore off his suit jacket, then threw it down. He got back up on the apron, teasing he’d get in the ring, but then hopped off. He stormed up the ramp with Maryse. Ziggler yelled on the mic that Miz just proved he’s the big soft coward everyone thought. Miz tried to storm back down the ramp but Maryse stopped him.
The Hype Bros defeated The Vaudevillians via pinfall. At one point in this match, English missed on a somersault senton bomb. That allowed Mojo Rawley to make the hot tag to Ryder. Later, Rawley clotheslined English and Ryder hit a Broski Boot on Gotch in the corner. The Hype Brothers hit the Hype Rider on English for the win. Post-match, they did an interview in the ring and said the hype train has left the station. They celebrated the win.
They had a backstage segment with AJ Styles talking trash to Apollo Crews pretending to not know his name. Crews spelled it out for him and Styles told him he’s the face that runs the p-l-a-c-e.
AJ Styles defeated Apollo Crews via pinfall. Late in the match, Crews caught Styles on a flying body block. From there, Crews hit a Samoan Drop. Moments later, he tried to charge at Styles in the ring corner but Styles got his boot up. Styles yanked Crews’ neck against the top rope and then hit the Phenomenal Forearm for the win.
They had an interview from Renee Young with Heath Slater at his home, a trailer home. His wife was there and Rhyno. Slater talked about his attempts to get a WWE contract, then mentioned that Rhyno is now going to help him provide for his kids. Some tire screeching was heard outside and Slater rushed out to check on something. Rhyno rolled his eyes at Renee Young over it all.
Bray Wyatt made his entrance and talked about fear. He said he fears no snakes or monsters. Randy Orton thinks he’s got venom running through his veins, but Bray said he prays the voices in Randy’s head are telling him to run. Orton interrupted the speech and came down to the ring. Orton said he half respects Wyatt because he can see he’s got demons inside just like himself. He said he’s been damaged a long time and a handful of staples isn’t going to change that. Wyatt told Orton that this is the Orton he wanted to see. He told him at Backlash he’d cut the head off the serpent and put it on his mantle like a trophy. Orton accepted the match and told Wyatt he’s not afraid to kick his ass right now. He charged to the ring but the lights went out and Wyatt disappeared.
Alexa Bliss and Natalya defeated Becky Lynch and Naomi via pinfall. Nikki Bella was on guest commentary and was asked about Carmella. She said she picked the wrong woman to make a name on. During the match, Carmella came to ringside and attacked Nikki, throwing her into a crowd barrier. In the ring, Becky was about to leave the ring to chase off Carmella. Alexa rolled up Becky and grabbed her tights for the pinfall win.
Heath Slater & Rhyno defeated The Headbangers via pinfall in the tag team tournament. The match saw the return of Mosh and Thrasher to Smackdown. Towards the end of the bout, Mosh hit a splash in the corner. He tagged in Thrasher and they hit a Stage Dive on Slater. Rhine broke up the pinfall and pulled Slater to the corner for a tag. Rhyno then hit a Gore on Mosh for the win.
A man in a suit was in the ring who called himself Gary “The Milkman” Milliman. He said he wasn’t leaving until someone got in the ring to get some from him. He took off all his clothes and was just in his underwear. He waited for someone to come out and then Kane’s pyro hit. Kane came down to the ring and chokeslammed the guy. He left the ring and walked up the ramp, just as Baron Corbin was making his entrance.
Dean Ambrose defeated Baron Corbin due to disqualification in a non-title match. AJ Styles was on guest commentary. At one point early on, Styles and Ambrose trash talked to one another. Late in the match, Corbin hit a Deep Six on Ambrose for the near fall. He tossed Ambrose to the outside and then into the barricade. AJ Styles got up and yelled at Corbin to keep on beating up Ambrose more. Corbin got in his face. Ambrose attacked Corbin from behind, sending him into Styles. AJ tried to get revenge on Ambrose but ended up kicking Corbin in the face by mistake. The ref called the match due to DQ.
Post-match, Ambrose hit Dirty Deeds on Corbin. Styles prepared for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Ambrose hit him causing AJ to be crotched on the top rope. Styles stayed stuck there yelling out in pain. Ambrose looked at him and shook his head. He put a hand on his shoulder and bounced AJ on the top rope more, then shook his hand before walking away as Smackdown went off the air.
