Below are all of the latest results for WWE SmackDown from Cleveland, Ohio’s Quicken Loans Arena this past Tuesday night.
AJ Styles defeated Kevin Owens via pinfall to retain the WWE United States Championship. The ref got knocked down late in the match. Owens tried to go for the Popup Powerbomb but Styles eluded him and turned it into a pinfall. The ref managed to turn over and see it and counted the 1-2-3 for Styles to win. Post-match, Owens was irate with the ref saying his shoulder was up. The ref was helped out of the ring and up the ramp by a medical official due to having poked his eye. Owens finally headed backstage looking quite upset.
Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon checked on the referee backstage as his eye was hurt. He said he made a bad call. A furious Kevin Owens showed up yelling at the ref and calling him an idiot. Shane told him to calm down. Owens kept complaining so Shane booked Owens in a rematch for the U.S. title at SummerSlam. Owens demanded a competent ref for it. Bryan suggested Shane McMahon as the ref.
New Day’s music hit but The Usos came out instead and cut a promo as they walked down the ramp to the ring.
They had a “Fashion Peaks” segment with Tyler Breeze in the detective office trying to determine what happened to Fandango. The lights flickered in the office and in walked Fandango. Soon after, Ascension was around him. One poured some syrup on a piece of wood and the other had a rose in hand. Fandango danced in between them and they all laughed. The segment closed with Breeze saying he knew who kidnapped Fandango now.
Sami Zayn vs. Aiden English – English had a spotlight on the stage and began a song which he continued as he walked down the ramp to the ring. In the matchup, English got a surprising pinfall win out of nowhere. Sami Zayn was shocked by it. As he was recovering on the mat, Maria and Mike Kanellis’ theme music hit. They arrived out onto the stage and brought up how they love each other and love that Sami lost. Their theme music played on as SmackDown went to commercial.
Becky Lynch & Naomi defeated Natalya & Carmella via submission. Natalya got the Sharpshooter locked onto Naomi who struggled but finally crawled towards the corner. Carmella slapped Nattie for a blind tag to get in and quickly applied the Code of Silence submission. Naomi reversed it into her own submission. Natalya tried to run in to make a save but Becky came in to take her down. Carmella tapped to Naomi’s hold.
Renee Young interviewed WWE Champion Jinder Mahal backstage. She asked if he had a preference of who wins the Cena vs. Nakamura match tonight to face him at SummerSlam. He said it doesn’t matter if it’s the man from Japan or the American. He talked about the constant hatred he endures when walking down the streets. He said nobody can end the reign of the Modern Day Maharaja.
Rusev defeated Chad Gable via submission. After a commercial break, Gable gained control and hit a huge reverse moonsault off the corner onto Rusev for a very near fall. Gable managed to put on an Ankle Lock at one point and Rusev looked ready to tap. However, Rusev managed to escape and then delivered a huge Superkick. With Gable down, Rusev locked on The Accolade to make him tap out.
Post-match, Rusev got on the mic saying ever since he came back to SmackDown looking for competition. He said Cena won a match to wave his flag around but he didn’t actually beat him because nobody can. Rusev said everyone’s afraid of him with SummerSlam coming soon. His theme music played with Rusev yelling in the ring. Randy Orton’s theme music hit and The Viper came down the ramp staring at Rusev. Orton walked around ringside a bit then got a mic. Orton got in the ring and told Rusev he never beat The Viper and he’s not afraid of him. He said if he wants an opponent at SummerSlam to look no further. Rusev laughed and started to say things on the mic in Bulgarian. Orton went at him and Rusev tried to strike but Orton ducked it and dropped him with the RKO. He posed on the corner as his music played on.
Shinsuke Nakamura defeated John Cena via pinfall to become new No. 1 contender for the WWE World Championship at SummerSlam. Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers were shown watching from a skybox seat in the arena. Towards the close, John Cena managed to get Shinsuke Nakamura up and hit the Attitude Adjustment. Cena had the pinfall with Nakamura getting his shoulder up just before the count. Cena hit a second and then went for a third after rolling through to stand up with Nakamura on his shoulders. Shinsuke slid off Cena’s shoulders and grabbed him to toss backwards. Cena seemed to land odd on the side of his neck/head. Nakamura got in the corner and set up then rushed Cena and hit the Kinshasha to finish him for a clean pin in the middle of the ring. Post-match, Jinder Mahal stood up from his skybox to stare down at the winner. Cena got up and went over to congratulate Nakamura then raised up his arm before leaving the ring. Shinsuke continued to celebrate as SmackDown went off the air.
