Welcome to the WWE SmackDown results for Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017. The latest episode took place in Fresno, California just two days after WWE Payback from San Jose. Among the stars in action were Chris Jericho, Jinder Mahal, Sami Zayn, Charlotte Flair, Naomi, Natalya, Carmella, AJ Styles, Kevin Owens and more. Below are all of the latest results for WWE SmackDown from Tuesday night in Fresno.
They showed an earlier segment backstage with Shane McMahon talking to Jinder Mahal. He took the WWE Championship belt from Jinder that he had stolen from Orton and said he was going to return it to its rightful owner. Mahal sneered as Shane walked off with the title belt.
Shane came to the ring to start off SmackDown and then introduced the newest member of SmackDown, the new US Champion Chris Jericho. Jericho talked up how exciting it was to be back on SmackDown. Shane announced that he’d defend the US title tonight against his nemesis, Kevin Owens. AJ Styles came out to interrupt and reminded Jericho of how they used to work together. He said he’d like nothing more than to take that title off him at Backlash, if he still has it after tonight. Kevin Owens came out to insult the three guys in the ring but the crowd chanted “You tapped out” at him. He said it doesn’t matter, because he’ll take his title back tonight. Owens asked AJ what he’s even doing out there and told him to get out of his ring. Styles did just that but headed up the ring and started to punch away on Owens. Referees pulled them apart as Shane McMahon was up ordering them apart.
Jinder Mahal defeated Sami Zayn via pinfall. Zayn set up for the Helluva Kick late but one of the Singh Brothers yanked Jinder out of the ring. As the referee was distracted, Zayn tried to hit the ropes so he could rush across for his dive out onto Singh and Jinder. The other Singh brother grabbed Zayn’s leg to trip him up. He turned around and stared at him. Jinder got back in the ring and grabbed Sami from behind to hit his finisher for the win.
Backstage, Natalya, Carmella, James Ellsworth, and Nia Jax tried to recruit Becky Lynch to their new stable. Natalya tried to convince her that she was the first woman drafted to SmackDown in the draft, so she should be getting title shots, not Charlotte Flair just for showing up. After hearing them out, Becky said she needed to think about it some more.
Tye Dillinger defeated Aiden English via pinfall. English called for a spotlight ahead of the match and did some singing until Dillinger’s entrance interrupted him. After losing the match, English was down on his knees in the ring and began crying over the loss.
Backstage, Chris Jericho was with Renee Young when Aiden English was there. Jericho brought up how he was crying earlier and said there’s no crying on SmackDown. He talked up how English is on SmackDown, he can sing and is a good looking guy. He asked him if he knows what happens when you cry on SmackDown and eventually told him “You just made the list.” He told Renee she made the list too. She shrugged her shoulders as if to ask what she did. Jericho walked off.
Dasha Fuentes was interviewing Charlotte backstage about what happened during her title match against Naomi last week. Carmella, Natalya, and Tamina showed up and attacked Charlotte, leaving her laid out. Tamina said “Welcome to SmackDown Charlotte” and Natalya told her “we’ll see you out there.”
Naomi made her entrance for the women’s tag match. The commentators said she might have to go it alone with Charlotte getting attacked backstage.
Carmella & Natalya defeated Naomi & Charlotte Flair via pinfall. Charlotte showed up to the match late. The close saw Carmella vs. Naomi in the ring. Naomi ran off Natalya, but then saw Ellsworth hop onto the apron. She went after him but he dropped off. Carmella grabbed Naomi from behind for the schoolboy pinfall to get a surprise win. Post-match, the heel team attacked Charlotte and Naomi in the ring. Becky Lynch’s music hit and she walked to the ring. Once inside, she looked at the three heels and then shook her head at them. She shook Tamina’s hand, then Carmella’s, and then hugged Natalya. James Ellsworth stuck his hand out and Becky went for a hug so Ellsworth went to hug her. She threw him into Tamina then started to attack Natalya and Carmella. The heels eventually gained control and beat up Becky with Charlotte and Naomi. Carmella had Natalya hold Becky for her and she put her down.
Dolph Ziggler defeated Sin Cara via pinfall. late in the match, Cara went for a flip off the ropes but Dolph got both knees up. Sin Cara gathered himself and got back to his feet only to get a big Superkick to the jaw from Ziggler. Dolph fell back onto Cara to get the winning pinfall.
They had a prerecorded segment called “Law & Order: The Fashion Files” which was a spoof of “Law & Order” featuring Breezeango. They discussed how they closed the case on Ascension last week but now have a new case: The Usos. They ran down their crimes including grand theft of the tag titles from American Alpha. They said they’d make the big bust on May 21st at Backlash.
Kevin Owens defeated Chris Jericho via pinfall to win the United States Championship. The match went back and forth throughout. Early on, Jericho tried to put Owens’ hand between the ring steps and ring again like he did at Payback. Owens escaped to get back in the ring and then kicked Jericho when he got in. Later, Owens was on the outside after escaping a Walls Of Jericho. Y2J went for a running slide but Owens moved away and then superkicked him on the outside. He followed with a DDT of Jericho on the ramp. Back in the ring, Owens hit the Popup Powerbomb and got the pinfall victory. Post-match he left the ring for a bit with the title belt as staff checked on Jericho, still down on the mat. Owens laid his title belt on the ring apron and got back in the ring, then picked up Jericho. He shoved him to the ropes and hit another Popup Powerbomb. He picked up Jericho again and yelled “You were never my friend!” then shoved him down.
Owens began to go up the ramp with the title belt and referees/trainers helped Y2J out of the ring and started up the ramp. Owens rushed down again and attacked him. This time he put a steel chair around Jericho’s neck and then shoved him into the ringpost. Jericho was down on the outside floor in pain as Owens walked up the ramp with his reclaimed US title to end SmackDown.
