Welcome to the WWE SmackDown results for the Tuesday, February 21, 2017, episode of the weekly show. This week’s professional wrestling program took place in Ontario, California with just 40 days to go until WrestleMania 33. The latest show featured a big 10-man battle royal to find a new No. 1 contender for Bray Wyatt’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Below are all of the results and highlights of Tuesday night’s episode.
SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan came to the ring and talked about the road to WrestleMania, as well as the twists and turns that come along with it. He said that’s why he needed to bring out the SmackDown Women’s Champion now. With Naomi in the ring, Bryan talked about how he can relate to being injured after fighting so hard to get to the top. He said it was tough for him but he’d have to ask her to give the title back because doctors have said she can’t defend the title in the required 30 days. Naomi fought back tears a bit but eventually said when she comes back she’ll make sure everyone will feel the freakin’ glow. She handed the title over and Daniel gave her a hug after the fans applauded her. A teary-eyed Naomi left the ring and walked up the ramp.
Just then, Alexa Bliss’ music hit and she came waltzing down the ramp with an evil smirk towards Naomi. Alexa got in the ring and made her case for why SmackDown needs someone to have the belt heading to Mania and it should be her since she has been ready for two weeks for a rematch. Bryan said that seems like it would be the best thing for him to do, but he’s not. Instead, he’s going to give Alexa an opportunity to win the title in a match against someone who is ready to compete right now. Bryan introduced Becky Lynch for the big match.
Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch via pinfall to win the WWE SmackDown Women’s title. Late in the contest, Becky had the upper hand, but Alexa tried to crawl away towards the outside. Becky grabbed her by the legs to drag her back in. Alexa crawled towards the other side of the ring and grabbed the ring apron cover pulling it into the ring as Becky pulled her legs. The ref went over to adjust the ring apron cover. That allowed Alexa to jab Becky in her throat, disorienting her. From there, Alexa rolled up Becky in a schoolboy pinfall and secured her tights without the ref seeing. The ref mad the pinfall count which gave Alexa the win and a second title reign. Post-match, Mickie James showed up on the ramp and celebrated with Alexa. As Becky turned her back in the ring, Mickie snuck down and got in to try to attack. Becky fought her off and kicked Mickie out of the ring causing her to retreat up the ramp.
American Alpha defeated The Fashion Police via pinfall. After sending Tyler Breeze out of the ring, Alpha hit a Sky High Bulldog on Fandango for the win. Post-match, The Usos’ voices came on the speakers and they were shown standing out in the crowd. They delivered a promo about how Alpha needs to be afraid of Usos coming for them at any moment.
Natalya defeated Nikki Bella via pinfall in a Falls Count Anywhere match. The match went from the ring to the ringside area, to up the ramp and backstage. While behind the curtains, Nikki and Nattie fought near a group of people in catering. Natalya threw Nikki towards a curtain and Maryse happened to be walking the area so Nikki knocked her down again. Nattie and Nikki kept on fighting out into the arena and down the ramp. Natalya went for the Sharpshooter but Nikki managed to reverse it and put her into the Fearless Lock. She had it locked in until Maryse ran down the ramp with a pipe in hand and hit Nikki to break the hold. Maryse kept hitting Nikki with the pipe until Miz showed up to pull Maryse away and up the ramp. Natalya crawled over and took the winning pinfall. Post-match, referees checked on Nikki who was clutching at her knee at the bottom of the ramp.
Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews each cut promo speeches about how they’ll win tonight’s battle royal. Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton appeared on screen from backstage. Wyatt talked about how the age of Wyatt is upon everyone. Orton finished the segment by looking at the camera. “Run,” Orton said as the clip faded out.
A 10-man battle royal to determine the No. 1 contender for Bray Wyatt’s WWE World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania. involving Dolph Ziggler, Mojo Rawley, Apollo Crews, The Miz, Dean Ambrose, John Cena, AJ Styles, Luke Harper, Baron Corbin and Kalisto. Cena was introduced first for the match and came out to a lot of cheers and fans singing “John Cena sucks.” SmackDown went to commercial ahead of the other introductions. Styles and then Ambrose were the final introductions.
As the bell rang, all 10 men started to brawl immediately. Cena and Ziggler both got dumped onto the apron but managed to back into the ring. After a commercial break, Baron Corbin scored the first elimination by tossing Mojo Rawley out of the ring. However, Corbin was hit by a super kick to level him soon after. Kalisto and Ziggler got into a skirmish on the side apron. Ziggler grabbed him by the mask and tried to yank it off. Kalisto pulled himself away but Dolph connected on a Super kick causing Kalisto to fall to the apron and off to the floor. Moments later, Apollo Crews came over and was able to hit Dolph off the apron, eliminating him.
With Ziggler eliminated, he became irate and grabbed a steel chair to go bash on Kalisto. Crews started to yell and leaned over the top rope. Corbin came over and dumped him out for the next elimination. A bunch of spots followed with various stars getting involved. Styles hit a Pele Kick on Harper, but then was taken down by Corbin. Ambrose bounced from the ropes with his pendulum clothesline to take down Styles. Moments later, Miz finally started to get back into things and noticed multiple guys in the corners. He started running moves on different guys in each of the corners. With Cena in the center of the ring, Miz started mocking Daniel Bryan’s Yes kicks. Cena responded by avoiding a kick, then grabbing Miz and tossing him over the ropes. Cena looked out over the ropes at Miz on the floor as SmackDown hit break.
After commercials, Styles and Ambrose were going at it, with Styles wrapping up Ambrose from behind. Cena went over and grabbed both for a German Suplex, showing his strength. Cena got the upperhand on Styles but before he could complete the Five Knuckle Shuffle, Corbin grabbed him and hit End of Days. As Corbin celebrated, Ambrose came over to fight him. Corbin charged at Ambrose, who dropped down pulling the rope and Corbin fell out of the ring. Corbin was furious and pulled Ambrose out of the ring through the bottom rope. He hit End of Days on him on the outside leaving Ambrose laid out as refs ordered Corbin backstage.
Meanwhile, The Miz snuck back into the ring and grabbed Cena to toss him out over the top ropes. Cena tried to get back in but four refs backed him off, saying he was officially eliminated. It eventually came down to a final three of Ambrose, Harper, and Styles. All three men fought on the side apron. Harper eventually delivered a big super kick which caused Ambrose to fell to the floor.
Styles and Harper battled it out in the ring, going back and forth with each on the apron. The finish saw Harper hit a big forearm on Styles and then Styles punch away on Harper from the top turnbuckle. Harper grabbed Styles and pulled him downwards and eventually, the two men hit the side apron, falling to the floor. The bell rang and the referees started to confer over who won the match. AJ asked what the call was and the refs told him they hit at the same time.
Post-match, Harper and Styles were both pacing and declaring themselves each the winner. Eventually, Daniel Bryan’s music hit and he rushed to the ring. He told everyone the official decision for the match is a draw so there is no winner tonight. Bryan said therefore, a winner will be determined next week. Styles shoved Harper in anger and Luke blasted him with a discus lariat to leave Styles laying on the mat.
The Wyatt sounder went off. Bray and Randy showed up on the Titantron with Bray continuously laughing as SmackDown went off the air.
