Welcome to the WWE SmackDown results for the Tuesday, January 7th, 2017 episode of the weekly professional wrestling show. This week’s installment was held at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington and was the final episode before the Elimination Chamber 2017 pay-per-view. Among the competitors appearing on the show were WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose, The Miz, Baron Corbin, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, and WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena. Below are all of the match by match results for the latest SmackDown episode.
Baron Corbin won via pinfall over AJ Styles in a Fatal Fourway match. The match was booked by Daniel Bryan after the opening segment during which each of the four men came out to claim they’d win the Elimination Chamber on Sunday. Competing in the bout were Corbin, AJ Styles, The Miz, and Dean Ambrose. Late in the contest, Ambrose was taken out of the ring. Styles delivered a Phenomenal Forearm on The Miz but was slow to crawl to the pin. Maryse pulled Miz out of the ring. Meanwhile, Corbin had snuck back in and grabbed Styles for End of Days to win it.
Luke Harper backstage promo with Harper saying he’s going to eliminate Orton at the Chamber PPV this Sunday.
They had side-by-side split screen interviews with Natalya and Nikki Bella regarding their feud. Nattie claimed Nikki has no friends only followers and an army of people on her reality show who have to work very hard to make Nikki look good. Natalya said she plans on exposing Nikki Bella for who she really is on Sunday and no amount of makeup will be able to fix her. Nattie accused Nikki of turning her own uncle Bret Hart against her. Nikki called Natalya some sort of “crazy cat lady.” Nattie said Nikki will be on the shelf after Sunday and will be next to her pregnant sister realizing she’ll never have a baby of her own. Nattie said eventually Nikki will be on her own when John moves on. Nikki eventually left the interview saying she was done. Nattie laughed saying Nikki is always walking away from the truth.
Apollo Crews defeated Dolph Ziggler via pinfall. Crews shocked Ziggler with the win. Post-match, before Crews could even celebrate much, Ziggler attacked him from behind. He went to the outside and grabbed a steel chair and hit Crews on the back. Kalisto’s music hit and he rushed to the ring to try to help. He managed to kick the chair out of Ziggler’s hands but then got crotched on the top rope by Ziggler. Dolph picked up the chair again and smacked Kalisto on the back, causing him to fall to the mat. Dolph left both superstars laid out before leaving the ring.
Later backstage, Daniel Bryan asked Dolph if he was just going to beat people up with chairs every time he loses a match. Ziggler said he can beat Kalisto and Apollo Crews, even at the same time if he had to. Bryan liked that idea and booked Dolph in a 2-on-1 handicap match against them at Sunday’s Elimination Chamber PPV.
There was an official contract signing for two women’s matches for Sunday. Alexa Bliss vs. Naomi and Mickie James vs. Becky Lynch matches were all made official in the ring. All of the women trash talked each other a bit, with Alexa saying she forgot about Naomi, but she’ll just beat her on Sunday. Naomi said she hasn’t forgot her or that she’s pinned her twice now. Naomi said Alexa will feel the “glow” on Sunday and then gave her a roundhouse kick. From there, all four women got in a brawl. Alexa got tossed to the ouside and Becky managed to yank Mickie out of the ring near her. Naomi hit a dive over the top rope to take out the two heels and then returned to the ring with Becky to celebrate.
The Usos, Vaudevillains and The Ascension defeated American Alpha, Rhyno & Slater, Breezeango via pinfall in a tag team turmoil match. Late in the bout, all of the teams got into a big brawl. Eventually, the ring got cleared and American Alpha’s Jason Jordan helped toss Chad Gable out over the top onto all the other competitors. One of the Ascension cleared Gable, but Rhyno got back in the ring and hit a Gore spear. The other Ascension member came in and was able to hit a move off the corner to take down Rhyno for the pinfall win for his team.
John Cena defeated Randy Orton via pinfall in a non-title match. Bray Wyatt watched from the bottom of the ramp from his rocking chair as the two competitors started the match with dueling Cena and Orton chants. At one point after commercial break, things went to the outside with Cena hoisting up Orton for a move near the announcers tables. Orton slid off and picked up Cena to slam him hard on his back on the table. Back in the ring, the two traded punches with Cena managing to duck one and slam down Orton before hitting Five Knuckle Shuffle. He hit the AA and Orton kicked out at the last second. Cena went to the top rope for a move but Orton jumped up and grabbed him to hit his draping DDT from the top. Orton got fired up for the RKO and delivered it as Cena got up. Orton had the pinfall but Cena kicked out at two.
Later, Orton tried for an RKO but Cena shoved him to the ropes. He picked up Orton for the AA, but Randy grabbed the top rope and held it. Cena yanked him away but ended up kicking the ref down with Orton’s feet. Cena got Orton into the STF and he tapped but the ref was out. Bray Wyatt got into the ring to help Orton attack Cena. The two had the numbers and Bray tried to feed Cena to Orton for an RKO. Instead, Cena clotheslined Orton but then as he turned, Wyatt took him down with Sister Abigail. With Wyatt in the ring Luke Harper rushed down and got in to face him. Wyatt tried to order Luke to leave. Harper looked ready to exit but turned back and clotheslined down Bray. Just then, Orton snuck in behind Harper. He tried to spin him around and hit an RKO but Harper avoided it and shoved Orton towards Cena who picked up Randy and hit the AA. Cena took the pinfall and the ref finally got in to count the 1-2-3 for the win.
