Welcome to the WWE Raw results for the Monday, July 25, 2016 episode. This week’s installment of the professional wrestling program comes from the CONSOL Energy Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It marks the first episode after Sunday night’s huge Battleground 2016 pay-per-view and also the first RAW since the WWE Draft. Among the superstars expected to appear are Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Rusev and New Day. Below are all of the match-by-match results and highlights for the latest episode of WWE Raw.
WWE Raw Results 07/25/16:
All of the Raw roster members were assembled on stage at the start of the show. Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley were in ring and talked about how there is no title on RAW since Dean Ambrose has the World Heavyweight title on SmackDown. Stephanie said there’s always been a title on RAW and the fans demanded it, so that’s what they’ll get. Steph and Mick announced two Fatal Fourway matches will take place tonight, with the winners of the two matches fighting in singles competition for the main event. The winner of that will face No. 1 draft pick Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for the new WWE Universal Championship.
Steph said the women’s champion is still on RAW and asked her to step forward. Mick said last night Charlotte tapped out to Sasha Banks in a tag match at the PPV. They announced Sasha will take on Charlotte tonight for the women’s championship. Steph said the first of the Fatal Fourway matches is coming up.
Finn Balor vs. Cesaro vs. Rusev vs. Kevin Owens – Fatal Fourway #1
Late in the match, Rusev punched away at Cesaro but he responded back by knocking down Rusev and doing the Cesaro Swing. He put the Sharpshooter on but Kevin Owens got in and hit a superkick to break it up. Balor came back in as well and hit a dropkick on Owens followed by a clothesline which sent him into Rusev. Balor dropkicked Rusev and hit the Coup De Grace to collect the pinfall win.
Winner: Finn Balor pinned Rusev to win the first Fatal Fourway match in the title tournament semifinals.
Britt Baker vs. Nia Jax
Cole mentioned early on that Jax is from the same Samoan family as The Usos, The Rock and other Samoan stars. In the match, Jax dominated Baker, who wasn’t introduced for the match. At one point, Nia hit a big leg drop and pinned Baker, but then pulled up before the ref could count to three. She dished out some more punishment, hit another leg drop and then took the winning pinfall.
Winner: Nia Jax won via pinfall over Britt Baker.
They had a backstage segment with Sasha Banks stretching as Goldust and R-Truth showed up. She asked if they were trying to take her picture and they played it off like they were just playing Pokemon Go. Tom Phillipps came up and asked Sasha if she’s feeling any pressure about tonight’s title match. She said tonight she can make the dream she’s had since she was a girl come true. She said the WWE Universe needs to get ready because the women’s championship will have new swag to it. “It’s about to get lit” she added.
They showed a video to hype up Brock Lesnar’s first appearance on Raw next week in Atlanta since his UFC fight. The commentators questioned what he’d have to say about Randy Orton and SummerSlam.
Sami Zayn vs. Roman Reigns vs. Chris Jericho vs. Sheamus – Fatal Fourway #2
Multiple near falls occurred down the stretch in an exciting match. At one point, Sheamus threw several forearms at Zay and a clothesline then hit an Irish Curse backbreaker. He went for White Noise but Reigns was back in the ring and hit both Sheamus and Jericho with Superman Punches. He went for the punch on Zayn who moved away, which resulted in Reigns punching Sheamus again. Zayn rolled Reigns up for a near fall. Reigns tried to spear Jericho, but Jericho kicked him and hit a quick Codebreaker for a near fall. Reigns came back with a spear moments later for the big win. He’ll go on to face Finn Balor in the main event.
Winner: Roman Reigns won via pinfall over Chris Jericho to win the second Fatal Fourway match in the WWE Universal Championship semifinals.
New Day came to the ring to celebrate their historic reign as the WWE Tag Team Champions. They talked about the Wyatts defeating them last night but Woods said they were glad Bray was drafted to SmackDown. He said the loss last night doesn’t change their record-breaking title reign. Kofi Kingston showed off their Booty-O’s cereal and Big E did a promo. From there, they went to ringside and found a fan wearing their t-shirt and asked him to get in the ring to celebrate with them. His name is “Sonny Boy.” Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson show up and attack New Day. Woods and Kingston get sent into the steel steps a few times and they hit Magic Killer on Big E in the ring. After destroying New Day, Gallows and Anderson go over to the guy in the crowd and trash talk him and throw New Day’s gear at him.
Neville vs. Curtis Axel
Neville made his return from being out with injury. Prior to the match, JoJo announced Curtis Axel as “Mr. Irrelevant” since he was the final pick for Raw in the draft. He takes the mic and says they saved the best for last. During the match, Axel got some moves in but Neville eventually hits a belly-to-belly suplex and then goes up top for Red Arrow.
Winner: Neville won via pinfall over Curtis Axel.
They had a backstage segment where Darren Young and coach Bob Backlund are discussing the title match loss last night. Young says nobody puts their hands on his coach. Backlund tells him they’ll learn from that and Young will win the title. Golden Truth comes in playing Pokemon Go and Backlund snaps on them.
Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte – WWE Women’s Championship
Early in the match, Dana was involved and grabbed Sasha’s leg so the referee warned her. A bit later, Charlotte was on the outside and grabbed her title belt to pose with it. Sasha hits her into the apron after getting taunted. Dana Brooke comes over and Sasha throws the belt to her. The ref sees Dana holding the belt like a weapon and ejects her from being at ringside.
Charlotte had Sasha in a submission hold after a commercial break but Sasha is able to make a comeback and hits double knees to counter a move. Both women are down but get back up to trade shots center ring. Charlotte missed on a big boot and Sasha is able to take advantage. She hits double knees again in the corner and gets a near fall.
Later, Charlotte is able to regain control and hits a moonsault off the top corner. There’s more back and forth fighting with Sasha kicking out after Natural Selection. Charlotte puts a Figure Eight on for a short bit. She tried to put a Figure Four but Sasha is able to reverse into the Bank Statement. Charlotte got a foot on the bottom rope to break it. Moments later, Charlotte tried to charge at Sasha but Sasha grabbed her from behind for a Backstabber and locked on the Bank Statement. After a brief struggle, Charlotte tapped out to give Sasha the win.
Winner: Sasha Banks defeated Charlotte via pinfall to become new WWE Women’s Champion.
James Elsworth vs. Braun Strowman
After a break, Strowman arrived out with a new haircut. Byron Saxton is in the ring to interview local competitor James Elsworth. He admits to being nervous but says any man with two hands has a fighting chance so this could be big for him.
In the match, Braun dominated and was able to eventually get the win with a reverse chokeslam. Post-match, highlights of his win were shown as Strowman leaves and the ref checks on Elsworth.
Winner: Braun Strowman won via pinfall over James Elsworth.
Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. The Shining Stars
Enzo and Cass came out to do their promo bit. They were eventually interrupted by Primo and Epico. The match was a back and forth affair for a bit until Goldust and R-Truth showed up. They are looking around for Pokemon characters. The distraction allows Cass to hit a big boot on Primo for the pin.
Winners: Enzo Amore & Big Cass won via pinfall over The Shining Stars.
Backstage, Roman Reigns is walking and comes up to Finn Balor. They wished one another good luck. Finn says he’s Irish so he invented luck. Reigns says he’s Samoan “nuff said.”
Finn Balor vs. Roman Reigns – WWE Universal Title Qualifying match
Late in the bout, Reigns went for a Superman Punch but missed it. Balor rushed at Reigns but went into a boot. From there, Reigns sat on the corner area but Balor responded with a kick to the head causing Roman to fall out to the floor. Balor connected on a dropkick to push Reigns back some and then hit a running knee to the face from the apron. Once back in the ring, Balor went to the top and hits a big stomp to the back of Reigns’ head for a near fall. After some back and forth action, Balor is hit by the Superman Punch but Reigns only gets two. He hits two power bombs for another two count. Reigns set up for a big Spear but Balor countered it and hit a Slingblade. From there, he dropkicked Reigns into the corner and then went to the top to hit Coup de Grace for the big win.
Post-match, Reigns was holding his side and near the bottom of the ramp when Tom Phillips went up to him to ask for a comment after the tough loss. He said he hopes Finn goes on to beat Rollins at SummerSlam for the Universal title because after he does he wants him again. Roman says “I respect that dude” and walks off.
Winner: Finn Balor won via pinfall over Roman Reigns and will face Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
Cole and the commentary team hype up what a big night it was with Sasha becoming women’s champ and now Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins set for the WWE Universal title match at Summerslam. Raw signs off with Balor celebrating in ring.
