Welcome to WWE Raw results for the Monday, January 9, 2017, episode. This week’s show came from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. It featured more buildup towards the Royal Rumble and appearances scheduled for Shawn Michaels and possibly The Undertaker. Also on the show, Roman Reigns was scheduled to defend the United States Championship against Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens. Below are all of the latest match-by-match WWE Raw results and highlights for the latest episode.
The opening segment was backstage with Stephanie McMahon giving Mick Foley his performance review so far. She brought up rumors that The Undertaker would be there tonight and asked Foley to confirm. Foley said he can’t confirm but feels he’ll be there. Seth Rollins came in and said hi to them both, then said he’s officially entering the Royal Rumble. Braun Strowman came in roaring and said he wants Goldberg or Roman Reigns. Rollins got in his face telling him he can’t just barge in like that. Strowman told him he just did and yelled past him that he wants Reigns or Goldberg. Foley started to talk but Rollins said he could help out. He began punching away on Strowman and Strowman tossed Rollins against the wall. The two kept at it, but Stephanie yelled for security and several refs came in to separate the two superstars. Steph yelled at Foley that she’d handle things and told him to make sure Undertaker is there tonight.
Roman Reigns made his ring entrance, followed by Owens and Jericho. JoJo made the introductions but Braun Strowman’s music hit before the bell could sound. He stormed down the ramp and Reigns got out to go at him. Strowman got the upperhand and tossed Reigns into the ring for Owens and Jericho to doubleteam. Strowman came in to assist as they had a 3-on-1. Rollins’ music hit and he rushed to the ring with a chair, then got in to make a save. Reigns finally got back to his feet and they were able to overcome Strowman, knocking him out of the ring. Stephanie McMahon came out next and told Reigns he has time to recover before he has his 2-on-1 championship match later. She told Rollins he could have his fight now, against Braun Strowman.
Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman fought to a double count-out. Late in the match, Strowman was recovering outside against the barricade near the timekeepers’ area. Rollins got up on the top of the corner and tried for a jumping move but Strowman moved away and Rollins hit the barricade. Strowman took it to Rollins and tossed him into the crowd area. As Strowman dragged Rollins back towards the ring, the ref finished a 10 count. An enraged Strowman put Rollins back in the ring, then got the steel chair. As he went to get in the ring, Rollins was up and dropkicked him, causing the chair to fall into the ring and Strowman to stay out. Rollins swung the chair at Strowman as he tried to get in the ring several times.
Sasha Banks was backstage with Bayley and they talked about Bayley being No. 1 contender. Sasha suggested that maybe once Bayley wins the title they could have a Sasha vs. Bayley matchup. Charlotte came in and mockingly applauded, then said it was absurd that Sasha thinks she can teach Bayley how to beat her. She reminded Sasha that nobody has beat her for the title at a PPV and Bayley won’t either. Nia Jax walked in behind Sasha and stared her down. Suddenly, Jax kicked Sasha in her bad knee. Charlotte attacked Bayley and tossed her into some equipment. Jax kicked Sasha’s leg again and stood next to Charlotte as they looked down at the two fallen wrestlers. Charlotte smirked and patted Jax’s shoulder. Nia looked at her, then grabbed her and shoved her against a piece of equipment, before walking off.
Jack Gallagher defeated Drew Gulak via pinfall. Austin Aries joined Cole and Graves for commentary on the 205 Live cruiserweights. Post-match, Charley Caruso interviewed Gallagher in the ring about his rivalry with Daivari. Gallagher said he wants to end things in a civilized manner by extending the olive branch to Mr. Daivari. He officially invited him out to meet him on 205 Live and says if he’s not civilized he’ll have to engage in fisticuffs with him.
Mick Foley was walking backstage looking for The Undertaker. Nobody around had seen him. Stephanie came up to him and asked if he’s seen him yet. Steph told Mick Foley his whole performance review hinges on this. She gave him one hour to produce Taker in the middle of the ring.
Shawn Michaels made his entrance and came down to the ring slapping hands with fans before posing in the ring a bit. An “H-B-K” chant started up from the fans and Michaels told them to keep it up so he could catch his breath. Michaels said he’s missed everyone and being out on a regular basis, especially this time of year. HBK brought up the Rumble being in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas. He also brought up how he won the championship 20 years ago at the Rumble in his hometown. He ran through some of the Rumble entrants so far and said he’s more comfortable on the outside watching it. A “one more match” chant started up and Michaels told them “don’t you pressure me.” Michaels brought up his new movie coming out January 20th, “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone.”
Rusev’s music hit and he came out with Lana and Jinder Mahal to interrupt. Rusev told Michaels if he wants a movie to be successful he needs to put his wife Lana in it. Michaels said they can’t since it’s done already. Rusev told him to have them use CGI like Star Wars did. Michaels made some joke about how CGI might work with a hairy wookie type like Rusev instead. They went back and forth with flat jokes until Enzo and Cass’ music hit to bring them out. Enzo was still in a motorized wheelchair. They got in the ring with Enzo having to prop himself up in the corner. They eventually launched into some movie title jokes for Lana, Rusev, and Jinder including “Good, The Bad, The Ugly” and “Puss in Boots.” Cass eventually stepped up to Rusev to challenge him to a one on one bout right now. Rusev told him if he wants a match he’s got it, against Jinder Mahal. They closed off with the “SAWFT” call out and then Michaels saying he’s got two words for them.
Big Cass defeated Jinder Mahal via pinfall. At one point in the match, Shawn Michaels got involved and hit Sweet Chin Music on Rusev. In the ring, Cass hit a twisting slam followed by the Empire Elbow for the win.
They had another promo for Emmalina coming soon.
Neville defeated Lince Dorado via submission. Neville dominated the match and was able to put Rings of Saturn on Dorado to make him tap out. Post-match, he attacked Dorado some more for good measure. Rich Swann ran down to attack Neville and run him out of the ring.
Backstage, Sasha Banks and Bayley went to Stephanie. She said they could have their tag match against Charlotte and Nia Jax even though Sasha’s not 100 percent. She said that match will be tonight.
Sheamus defeated Luke Gallows via pinfall. Anderson attacked Cesaro on the outside late which distracted Sheamus. However, he connected on a Brogue Kick on Gallows moments later for the win.
Mick Foley headed to the ring and talked up his history with The Undertaker and the chills he always got when Taker came to the ring. He summoned Taker to come to the ring for one more encounter. Foley kept talking it up. At one point, the lights went out. Fans went wild, until Stephanie’s music hit and she came to the ring with a clipboard in hand. She told Mick that judging by the fan’s response to the lack of him producing Undertaker, his performance review doesn’t look good. She began to talk about his failures and inability to bring Taker onto Raw tonight. The lights hit again and went out with Undertaker’s bells tolling this time. The Undertaker eventually arrived out on stage in smoke and pyro as his music played. Taker made his way to the ring and waited out a chant in the ring as he stared towards Foley and Steph.
Once he spoke, Undertaker told everyone “I’m back” and then said he is officially going to enter this year’s Royal Rumble match. He told them he goes where he wants, when he wants, and nobody controls him. He reemphasized that point as he looked right in Stephanie’s face. He talked up how he will win the Rumble and go on to headline WrestleMania. He said if anyone gets in his way, they will “Rest In Peace.”
Bayley and Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte and Nia Jax Sasha started off the match and managed to gain control for a while. She went for a move on the corner with Charlotte hung in the middle of the ropes but Charlotte moved away. Sasha started to hold on her hurt knee and had to move towards the side area to tag in Bayley. Bayley took control against Charlotte but missed on a rushing move at the corner and Charlotte delivered a big boot to level her. Nia Jax tagged in and crushed Bayley in the corner while sending a message towards Sasha. At one point, Bayley gained control against Charlotte. Nia slapped Charlotte’s back without Bayley seeing it. Bayley had a pinfall on Charlotte but since Charlotte wasn’t legal, the ref didn’t count it. As Bayley got up, Nia came in the ring to level her and put a huge leg drop on her for the pinfall win. Post-match, Sasha was outside the ring as Nia and Charlotte posed over Bayley.
Backstage, Noam Dar was fixing his hair when Alicia Fox came into the scene. He stuck his face out for her and say “go ahead then,” expecting another slap. Instead, Alicia grabbed him, leaned him down and kissed him aggressively. Dar collected himself after and seemed awestruck. Alicia said Cedric was right, Noam can’t handle a real woman.
New Day made their entrance to the ring and Titus O’Neil eventually joined them. He wanted to apologize for clocking Woods last week and said he wants another chance to be part of New Day. They joked about it and showed footage of him messing up a challenge back when he was on the old NXT show. They replayed it over and over, showing him as he tripped over a beer keg he had to try to carry around the ring as quickly as possible. They gave him a chance to do the challenge again right there, with a keg painted in New Day colors. Titus made it all the way around the ring and then celebrated just before he crossed the line, dropping the keg. The ref told him he didn’t cross the line with it so it didn’t count. Titus got mad and shoved Kofi Kingston, setting up a match.
Kofi Kingston defeated Titus O’Neil via pinfall. Late in the match, Titus had control and pressed Kofi overhead. He threw him to the outside at Big E and Woods who managed to catch Kofi to keep him on his feet. Titus came out and chased Kofi who slipped back into the ring. As Titus came in, Kofi hit the Trouble in Paradise for the big win. Post-match, New Day did their booty dancing around the fallen Titus before leaving the ring.
Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho defeated Romans Reigns via pinfall in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match for the US Championship. Reigns left the ring and attacked Owens and Jericho on the ramp before the match got started. He threw Owens into the barricade and beat up on Jericho up the ramp. The shark cage was on the stage and Reigns threw Jericho inside it. He started to secure the chain and padlock but Owens came back to attack, making sure Jericho got free. They turned the tables and double teamed Reigns down to ringside.
Eventually, Owens and Reigns got into the ring and the bell sounded to start the match. Jericho waited on the side apron for a tag and got one as Owens backed towards him with Reigns. At one point, Reigns seemed to hurt his right arm and was favoring it as he went on a rampage against both Owens and Jericho in the ring. Owens and Jericho regained control and tried for a double team Pop-Up Powerbomb to a Codebreaker. Reigns countered it and punched Jericho down, then exploded back with a Superman Punch on Owens. Owens fell to the outside and Reigns avoided a Codebreaker to hit a Spear on Jericho for a pinfall. He nearly got the 3 count but Owens grabbed Reigns’ leg and yanked him out of the ring.
At one point, Reigns hit a Driveby kick on Owens on the outside. Moments later, Reigns was trying to get back into the ring from the apron, but Owens held his leg from the outside. Jericho hit a Codebreaker to stun him. Owens came over and grabbed Reigns for a Pop-up Powerbomb onto the side apron. Jericho came to the outside and helped Owens pick up Reigns to put him back in the ring. Once inside, Jericho was able to hit another Codebreaker and collect the pinfall win, to get the US Championship.
