WWE Payback 2017 Results – Updated Match Coverage

Welcome to the WWE Payback 2017 results coverage. This article features the quick recaps of all of Sunday night’s big winners. Among the matches scheduled for this pay-per-view were Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens for the United States title, Alex Bliss vs. Bayley for the Raw Women’s title, and Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt in a “House of Horrors” match. Below are all of the latest Payback results for Sunday night’s big event.

Enzo Amore & Big Cass defeated Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson via pinfall. The close saw the action break down in the ring. Enzo and Gallows were the legal men. Gallows and Anderson set up for Magic Killer but Cass got back in the ring and delivered a big boot to send Anderson to the outside. Enzo turned it into a small package for the big pinfall win.

The Miz and Maryse arrived to the ring for MizTV. Miz introduced Finn Balor who made his entrance to the ring in street clothes, then stood next to the chair set up for him while Miz and Maryse were seated. Balor took a seat after the crowd chanted his name. Miz asked if he was done because he just had a five-minute entrance. Miz asked about with what Finn experienced if he felt like a failure. Balor said if he considers tearing a pec, labrum, and biceps to finish a match and become first Universal champ then yes he is. Miz told him he was a champion for a whole 24 hours. Finn Balor vowed to get his Universal title back. Miz asked him if he realizes that the current champ is Brock Lesnar.

WWE Payback PPV results:

Chris Jericho defeated Kevin Owens via submission to win the United States title. During the match, Jericho got the Walls of Jericho on Owens at one point but Owens reached the ropes with one finger to break it. Jericho was frustrated and jammed Owens’ hand between the ring steps and ring on the outside, then kicked the steps. Later, that came into play when Jericho put another Wall of Jericho on and Owens hand was too hurt to reach the ropes so he tapped out instead.

Austin Aries defeated Neville due to disqualification. Aries got a submission hold locked onto Neville late in the match. The champion had nowhere to go so he grabbed the referee and pulled him down to the mat. The ref got up and yelled at Neville then called for the bell. Aries was furious as the title belt was handed back to Neville despite him getting the victory.

The Hardy Boyz defeated Sheamus & Cesaro via pinfall to retain the WWE Raw tag team titles. Jeff Hardy seemed to lose a tooth during the match which Corey Graves pointed out. Jeff was isolated for a good bit of the match until he hit a dive off the corner to take down both challengers. Jeff finally made the hot tag to Matt who took it to Cesaro slamming him head first into the corner. Cesaro managed to get the upper hand later and did the Cesaro Swing on Matt before putting a Sharpshooter on him. Matt crawled towards the bottom rope but Jeff came over and pushed the bottom rope to him to help out. Sheamus hit the White Noise with Matt off the corner. Jeff came in to break up the pinfall and then took out Cesaro on the outside. Sheamus went for a Brogue Kick on Matt but Matt avoided it and went for Twist of Fate. Sheamus blocked it and went for the pinfall but Matt kicked out. Moments later, Matt fell against the ropes and Jeff made a blind tag. Sheamus slammed Matt for the pinfall but Jeff jumped off the corner for a Swanton Bomb and took the winning pin.

Later, Sheamus hit the White Noise with Matt off the corner. Jeff came in to break up the pinfall and then took out Cesaro on the outside. Sheamus went for a Brogue Kick on Matt but Matt avoided it and went for Twist of Fate. Sheamus blocked it and went for the pinfall but Matt kicked out. Moments later, Matt fell against the ropes and Jeff made a blind tag. Sheamus slammed Matt for the pinfall but Jeff jumped off the corner for a Swanton Bomb and took the winning pin. Post-match it seemed like Sheamus and Cesaro got in the ring to show respect for the champs. However, they came back and attacked the Hardys afterward by beating up Jeff on the outside, then bringing Matt in the ring to hit a Brogue Kick on.

Alexa Bliss defeated Bayley via pinfall to win the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. Bayley had a huge pop when she arrived out in her hometown of San Jose. The action was back and forth throughout with each of the women’s stars gaining momentum. At one point, Bayley hit her Macho Man style elbow drop off the corner, but Alexa kicked out of the pin. Late in the match, Bayley had a pinfall attempt, but Alexa kicked out of it and Bayley hit the bottom turnbuckle head first. The referee checked on Bayley near the ropes and Alexa yelled “She’s fine” as she tried to yank Bayley into the ring. Eventually Bayley got to her feet and went for a suplex but Bliss blocked it and DDTd Bayley into the mat for the surprising pinfall victory.

In a pre-taped segment, Randy Orton showed up in a limo at the “House of Horrors” at a location outside of the arena. He got out and went into the scary house with the door slamming behind him. Bray Wyatt showed up behind him to attack. He welcomed Orton to the house and slammed him into a wall. Wyatt left for another room. Orton went after him and Wyatt grabbed Orton by the throat through a hole in the wall. When they got to the kicker room, the two fought. Wyatt got the upper hand and dropped a refrigerator on Orton on the floor. Wyatt left through the front door with Randy still inside. Wyatt got into the limo and ordered the driver to take him to the arena. The Wyatt video flashed and the segment ended.

Seth Rollins defeated Samoa Joe via pinfall. The match lasted nearly 16 minutes. Towards the end, Rollins and Joe were outside the ring fighting before getting back in. Rollins hit a Falcon Arrow on Joe for the near fall, then followed with a Frogsplash. He became to clutch at his knee and then made a cover for another near fall. Later, Joe came back and hit a huge clothesline to level Rollins before putting a sleeper hold on him. Rollins turned it over into a pinfall to capture the win.

Bray Wyatt defeated Randy Orton via pinfall in a House of Horrors Match. Bray Wyatt arrived to the arena in the limo and then made his full entrance to the ring. Once he was in the ring and the lights came on, Randy Orton was also there and was standing behind him. He had a chair in hand and smashed it over Bray. The fight went outside the ring where Orton tossed Bray over the broadcast table and then hit his hanging DDT from off the table. He brought Bray back in the ring for more, but the Singh Brothers showed up to grab Orton. Randy fought them off and then turned to Wyatt who tried to gain control. Orton hit his RKO out of nowhere. Suddenly, Jinder Mahal appeared and hit Orton with the WWE Championship belt. Wyatt hit Sister Abigail for the non-title pinfall victory.

Braun Strowman defeated Roman Reigns via pinfall. After a brutal match all night, Strowman hit two powerslams to capture the pinfall win. The close saw Strowman continue the destruction as he destroyed Reigns with the steel steps. He lifted them overhead and slammed them against Reigns’ gut. After the PPV had ended, Reigns was shown on a post-show walking backstage on his own but spitting out blood. Cole kept commenting that Reigns clearly had internal injuries going on. Several staff members helped him over to the ambulance back in the garage, but Strowman showed up. He rushed at Reigns who moved away as Strowman ran through the open ambulance door, knocking it off. Strowman ran into the bunch of boxes near the wall. He went back over and fell against the back of the ambulance, Reigns slammed the available door against Braun several times and Strowman stumbled away. They finally cut to Renee Young and Jerry Lawler on the post-show.
