The WWE Money in the Bank 2016 match card will be presented to fans on Sunday, June 19th from Las Vegas, Nevada’s T-Mobile Arena. This particular pay-per-view is based on the infamous MITB ladder match involving anywhere from five to seven superstars participating. The object of the match is to be the first superstar to set up a ladder in the ring, climb up it, and retrieve a MITB Briefcase hanging overhead. That’s easier said to done, as the ladder gets bounced around, used as a weapon and opponents attempt to take down each other.
Two matches were announced for the Money in the Bank pay-per-view during the Monday, May 23rd episode of Raw. At the start of the show, it was announced by Shane McMahon that Seth Rollins will challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Rollins never officially lost that title as he was forced to vacate the belt due to injury back in November of 2015. They’ll likely compete in the main event match, with the ladder match coming ahead of it.
As for the MITB ladder match for the 2016 pay-per-view, there will be seven superstars competing. Five of the superstars qualified during matches on WWE Raw (5/23) and they were Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, Cesaro and Sami Zayn. On Smackdown (5/26), Alberto Del Rio became the latest to qualify for the sixth spot in the match. That leaves a final spot open for the MITB ladder match.
Keep in mind the winner of the ladder match gets that MITB briefcase complete with a title match contract inside. The winner has 365 days from the time of winning the match to cash it in on the champion for a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight title. So far, none of the entrants in the match have won the briefcase before, but Chris Jericho has held the major championship before.
