On Sunday, September 25, the WWE Clash of Champions 2016 pay-per-view arrived to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Every championship on the Raw roster was up for grabs on the night in this first Raw-exclusive event since the WWE Draft. That would include the new Cruiserweight championship and Universal Championship as well. Below are all of the match-by-match results for Sunday night’s big Clash of Champions event.
Nia Jax defeated Alicia Fox via pinfall. Fox tried to fight back but the force known as Nia Jax was too much for her to overcome. She eventually hit a big leg drop and got the pinfall win.
New Day defeated Gallows and Anderson via pinfall. Xavier Woods clocked Anderson with Francesca the Trombone from ringside to help his teammates Kofi Kingston and Big E score the win. New Day is now nearing a 400-day reign as the tag champs.
TJ Perkins defeated Brian Kendrick via submission to retain the Cruiserweight Championship. Perkins was able to escape Kendrick’s submission hold at one point and later got him into his own to make Kendrick tap. Post-match, Perkins offered a handshake and Kendrick obliged but then headbutted Perkins in the jaw to leave him laid out on the mat.
Cesaro and Sheamus was a no contest in their Best of Seven deciding match. The finish saw Cesaro clothesline Sheamus into the crowd area and fall over the barricade with him to the floor. The refs and medical staff rushed in and eventually called the match, even though fans and both competitors wanted to keep going. Should be interesting to see where this goes from here.
Chris Jericho defeated Sami Zayn via pinfall. Both men looked like they were about to capture the win at several moments. However, Jericho was able to play possum a bit and suckered Zayn into a Codebreaker to grab the win.
Charlotte defeated Bayley via pinfall in a Triple Threat match to retain the Women’s Championship. With Dana Brooke ringside, Charlotte was able to capitalize on the help from her protege at several moments. Dana made key saves to prevent the opponents from capturing the title. Later, Bayley battled with Charlotte in the ring and was bumped against the ring ropes which caused Sasha to fall off the apron. Charlotte kicked Bayley and scored the winning pin.
Roman Reigns defeated Rusev via pinfall to win the WWE United States Championship. At one point, Rusev had the Accolade locked in, but Reigns was able to power out of it in a Herculean effort. In another moment, Lana was ejected from ringside after pulling the ref out of the ring during Reigns’ pinfall count. The Bulgarian Brute tried to unleash his full force on Reigns, but it was to no avail as Reigns hit a surprise Spear to get the pinfall win and become new champion. In fact, Reigns was the only new champion of the night.
Kevin Owens defeated Seth Rollins via pinfall to retain the Universal Championship. In a wacky finish, Chris Jericho came to ringside to provide interference for Owens. Eventually, the referee got knocked out. Jericho helped Owens beat up Rollins some. After Jericho was cleared from the ring, Stephanie McMahon came from backstage and sent a referee down to the ring. Just then, Owens was able to hit his finisher, the Pop Up Powerbomb for the win. The finish left fans wondering if Stephanie was in fact involved in screwing Seth out of the title.
