Welcome to WWE Battleground 2016 results coverage part 3 at Ringside Results! On this page are the latest match outcomes and highlights from the pay-per-view in Washington, DC at the Verizon Center. Among the included results will be John Cena teaming with Enzo and Cass to take on The Club in a six-man tag match, as well as the epic Triple Threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight title between Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. WWE Battleground 2016 Results:
Darren Young vs. The Miz – Intercontinental title match
Bob Backlund and Maryse were ringside for Young and Miz, respectively. Early on in the bout, Miz hit shoulder tackles on Young, but the challenger came back and hit a swinging neck breaker for the two count. Young got control and went to the top rope a bit later, but a distraction from Maryse allowed Miz to knock him to the floor. Miz was able to work over Young a bit on the outside and tossed him back in for a near fall.
Later, Young made a big comeback after Miz tried for the corner clothesline. Young slammed Miz back-first on the apron and had a near fall. Backlund starts going a bit crazy at ringside. Miz countered the Crossface Chickenwing and rolled outside. Backlund blocked his path to stop Miz from walking off. Young yanked Miz back into the ring. Maryse was over and slapped Backlund, who gets up looking shocked. He starts to go wild again and Maryse pretends to fall like Backlund slapped her.
Miz goes to the outside and shoves Backlund down. Young comes out and grabs Miz and puts a Chickenwing on him. The ref calls for the bell for the DQ. Post-match, Young snaps and keeps the hold locked on Miz. Refs try to break things up but Young assaults one of the refs. Eventually, Young joins his coach on the ramp but is shocked at what he just did. Maryse and officials check on the Intercontinental champ.
Winner: The Miz defeated Darren Young due to disqualification.
They showed a promo video package to hype the six man tag match feature Cena’s feud with AJ Styles and The Club.
John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. The Club
Early in the match, Enzo went at it with Anderson. Styles tagged in before things got going and trash talks with Enzo. AJ gains control and hits a big dropkick to drop Enzo. Cass gets in and uses Enzo to take down Gallows and Anderson. The two Club members go to the floor and Cass tosses Enzo out on them to take them down again. Cass grabbed Anderson to bring back in the ring and threw Enzo on top of him for a near fall.
Later on, Cena finally gets a tag after Enzo had been cut off multiple times by the heels. Styles also tagged in. Cena hit multiple shoulder tackles and hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle but AJ countered the Attitude Adjustment with a pele kick.
Later in the match, AJ accidentally hits his Phenomenal Forearm on Gallows. Cena hits an AA on AJ but Gallows yanks Cena out of the ring and he gets tossed over the German announce table by Anderson. Enzo jumps off the ring steps and hits a DDT on Anderson on the floor. Cena barely makes it back to the ring before the ref counts to nine. AJ Styles is able to hit Styles Clash on Cena and had a pin but Cass yanks AJ to the outside. Gallows and Anderson end up hitting Magic Killer on Cass.
Moments later, Enzo comes in and faces off with Anderson and Gallows. Enzo sends Anderson into the ring post, but ends up getting dropped by a huge kick moments later. Cena crawls back into the ring. Gallows charged at him in the corner with Cena moving away. AJ goes to the top rope and Cena crotches him then sends Gallows out of the ring. From there, Cena climbs up the top rope to fight with AJ a bit. He eventually hits a super AA from the corner area for the big win. Post-match, Enzo and Cass get back in the ring to celebrate the win with Cena.
Winners: John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass defeated AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson via pinfall.
Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel w/Randy Orton
Jericho arrives to the ring for his Highlight Reel show. He asks all the fans to quiet down and then talks up this being the biggest edition of his show yet because tonight’s guest is returning to the ring after being out nine months with a shoulder injury. He mentions the big SummerSlam match and introduces Randy Orton who arrives out to a good amount of cheers from the crowd.
In the ring, Orton said he was enjoying his recovery time with his wife and family but then realized something was missing, the crowd atmosphere like right now. He says DC has him in a good mood but it might change and Jericho might get dropped. Jericho insults him a few more times and Orton says he got confused if this was the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” because of Jericho’s haircut. That gets an “Ellen” chant from the fans to stir up Jericho. He feeds to a highlight video of Brock Lesnar to show how powerful “The Beast” is.
Jericho suggests after the video that Orton must be scared of Lesnar since he’s been avoiding him for 15 years now. Orton says he knows Brock will beat up on him at SummerSlam but he’s just one RKO away from Viperland. Orton says there’s “no enhancements needed” to take a jab at Lesnar’s failed drug test and UFC 200. Jericho says Orton will pay for that remark. Jericho continues to talk down to Orton who teases an RKO but doesn’t do it. A few moments later, he hits the RKO to leave Jericho on the mat. Orton’s music hits and he poses for fans to close the segment.
Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match
Each of the men involved comes out with Rollins and Ambrose getting cheered and Reigns getting booed. JoJo makes the formal ring introductions for the championship bout.
Early on, a “Roman sucks” chant broke out and Rollins laughed at it. Reigns went after Rollins and knocks him out of the ring with a shoulder tackle. Ambrose stops Rollins from getting back in the ring. Reigns then tossed Rollins to the barrier and back in the ring. Rollins managed to duck a move from Ambrose but Reigns clotheslines him back out of the ring. Moments later, Ambrose rolled up Reigns from behind for the near fall. Reigns does the same thing a bit later. Ambrose went for Dirty Deeds but Reigns blocked it and the two went at it.
Later, Rollins is in a control on the outside and tossed Ambrose into the steel steps and then Reigns into the barricade. Rollins charged at Reigns but got dumped into the timekeeper’s area. Ambrose does a spot where he runs across two announce tables to jump on both Reigns and Rollins. Ambrose brings Reigns in the ring and hits a missile dropkick on him. He hits a charging move in the corner and a running bulldog, then follows with an elbow drop for a two count. Rollins is able to surprise Ambrose with a Frogsplash out of nowhere.
Rollins tried for the Pedigree on Reigns but it gets blocked. He tries to roll Reigns up and but Reigns scoops him up for a slam. Moments later, Reigns hits a tilt-a-whirl slam and then drops Ambrose with a Superman Punch. He hits one on Rollins. The fans boo as Reigns stands tall. He sets up for a Spear with Ambrose and Rollins avoiding it. All three men end up down in the middle of the ring.
Reigns gets double teamed by Ambrose and Rollins as they get up before him. They go for a big Shield-style power bomb but Reigns fights out of it. He gets sent to the outside in front of the announce table. Ambrose runs the ring and dives out to take down Reigns. Rollins does the same thing. They show backstage footage of the RAW and SmackDown locker rooms watching with interest in the outcome. Back in the match, Rollins and Ambrose manage to get up Reigns and power bomb him on a table. Rollins grabs a steel chair and hits Ambrose, then hits Reigns too.
Back in the ring, Ambrose blocked Rollins’ Pedigree and then blocked a turnbuckle power bomb. Ambrose went up top but Rollins went up and hit a Superplex followed by another move for the near fall. Moments later, Reigns is back in and hits a sit-down power bomb on Rollins for a near fall. Ambrose blocks the Superman Punch. Reigns blocked Dirty Deeds and went for Razor’s Edge but Ambrose rolled h I’m up for two. Reigns connects with a righthand shot and Superman Punch. Ambrose rolls to the outside. Rollins hits a Pedigree on Reigns for a near fall. Reigns blocks the next Pedigree attempt, but Rollins power bombs him into the corner. Reigns comes back and hits a Superman punch followed by a Spear. Reigns goes to pin Rollins, but Ambrose is back and hits Dirty Deeds to get the win.
Post-match, various members from the SmackDown roster including John Cena come out to celebrate along with Ambrose, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon. Foley and Stephanie are shown ringside looking unhappy. The Usos lift up Ambrose on their shoulders to celebrate the championship on SmackDown as Battleground ends.
Winner: Dean Ambrose won via pinfall over Roman Reigns to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
