During Monday’s episode of Raw, three new SummerSlam matches were added to the 2016 pay-per-view card. Two of those matches are tag team matches, and two of the three matches will be for championships that are currently held by wrestlers on the Raw roster. Involved in the title matches will be WWE United States Champion Rusev and the WWE tag team champions New Day. They’ll defend their respective titles against Roman Reigns and the team of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Here’s the latest details on the new SummerSlam matches.
New SummerSlam Matches:
The first match that was set up during Monday’s Raw results involved the tag team of Enzo Amore and Big Cass. The duo came out to cut an in-ring promo where Enzo talked about how he was kicking game to Sasha Banks last week on Raw until Chris Jericho interrupted him. Eventually Jericho came out to the ring, and then brought Kevin Owens out, saying Owens has his back. Jericho got in the ring and Cass stepped to him. Jericho and Enzo had a match to open Raw, which Jericho won due to a DQ. Basically, Owens interfered and Jericho hit a Codebreaker, so Big Cass got in the ring to deliver a big boot. All of that led to Cass challenging Owens and Jerich to a tag team match for SummerSlam. Jericho and Owens accepted.
Next up on Raw, the tag team champions, or two-thirds of them, decided to pay a visit to Raw General Manager Mick Foley. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston showed up while Foley was talkin to guest Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. They discussed the condition of their partner Big E, who had been viciously attacked and rammed crotch-first against a ringpost last week. A match appears to be set for the tag team champions to defend their titles against the team of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson at SummerSlam. Will this ferocious new tag team that was part of the Bullet Club capture the gold?
The third match that came about on Raw involved Roman Reigns and Rusev. The United States Champion and his lovely new wife Lana came to the ring for a wedding celebration, complete with a wedding cake in the ring on a table. After boring the crowd with photos from their special day, Roman Reigns came out to give a toast to the new couple, which Rusev didn’t appreciate. That turned into a fight, which led to Reigns knocking Rusev towards Lana. The lovely new bride fell face first into one of the cakes and screamed angrily at Reigns. Later backstage, Rusev complained to Mick Foley that he needed to do something about Reigns. Foley said Rusev can take out his frustrations at SummerSlam with the U.S. Championship on the line against Reigns.
These three new matches join an already stacked SummerSlam card which includes John Cena vs. AJ Styles, Apollo Crews vs. The Miz for the Intercontinental title, Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks for the WWE Women’s Championship, Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Title and Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins for the new WWE Universal Championship.
SummerSlam 2016 takes place on Sunday, August 21st from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York.
