Smackdown Results 07/07/16 for Toledo, OH

Welcome to the WWE Smackdown results for the July 7, 2016 episode of the weekly pro wrestling program. This week’s show was held live on Tuesday night at Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. Among the superstars and women’s wrestlers appearing for the event were Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, Zack Ryder, Sheamus, The Miz and Sami Zayn. Also on the show, Brock Lesnar’s opponent for Summerslam 2016 was announced. Read all of the latest WWE Smackdown results for matches and highlights below.

They had several backstage shots to start the show. The Club was shown with the commentators reminding everyone that Enzo and Cass are now John Cena’s guys. Chris Jericho was shown and talked about Sami Zayn being a thorn in his side but he’d get “it” tonight. Zayn was shown and said Jericho will have to settle for second best. From there, an exchange was shown between Seth Rollins and Jey Uso. Jey was upset over the way Seth’s been talking down on Roman Reigns and said he’d fight him for the honor of his family one-on-one tonight.

JoJo started to make ring introductions for Rollins vs. Jey Uso, but Dean Ambrose’s music hit to interrupt. He came out and said he always wanted to be a ring announced like Howard Finkel, but taller and with hair. He said he’d be special guest ring announcer tonight, then introduced Jey Uso. He announced Rollins as a “scumbag who didn’t get enough hugs as a kid.”

Seth Rollins defeated Jey Uso via pinfall. During the match, Ambrose kept talking trash to Rollins on the mic. At one point, it helped Jey get a Samoan Drop for a near fall. Rollins came back and went for the Pedigree, but Jey countered and hit a Superkick. Jey went to the top for the splash but Rollins put both knees up to block it, then hit a Pedigree for the win. Post-match Ambrose chased Rollins off and vowed to beat him and Reigns at Battleground to keep the title.

Zack Ryder defeated Sheamus via pinfall. Things went to the outside during the match where Sheamus slammed Ryder back-first into the apron. Later in the ring, he hit an Irish Curse backbreaker. Ryder was able to regain control when he battled Sheamus on the turnbuckle and hit a forearm to send Sheamus to the mat. From there, he did an Elbro Drop to collect the pinfall win. Post-match, Tom Phillips interviewed Ryder on the ramp and asked his plans now. Ryder said he’ll take Advil and ice his back but wants to recapture the US Championship. He challenged Rusev for a match.

Backstage, Rusev was interviewed. He said if Ryder wants to challenge him face-to-face on Raw maybe he’ll consider accepting the match. Until then he said Ryder is just a coward and all of Americans are losers.

Becky Lynch began to make her entrance for a match, but Natalya rushed down the ramp and attacked her from behind. She threw Becky into the barricade and then locked a Sharpshooter on. Referees had to pull her off and Natalya left for the back.

They had a backstage interview with Woods talking about how he doesn’t agree with his New Day brothers taking the Wyatt Family lightly but he’ll be there with them when they visit the compound.

AJ Styles defeated Enzo Amore via pinfall. After an outside the ring fight, Enzo was able to gain some momentum in the ring with strikes on AJ. He went for the Tornado DDT in the corner but AJ reversed and hit a snap suplex to send Enzo into the turnbuckle. AJ put Enzo on the top rope, where Enzo shoved AJ down and hit a DDT for a near fall. Later, Cass fought with Anderson and Gallows on the outside. Enzo was distracted a bit and AJ crotched Enzo on the corner. He pulled him down from there and hit Styles Clash for the win.

They had a backstage incident where Chris Jericho was looking for his scarf and then found Kevin Owens wearing it. Jericho got angry because there was a stain on it. Owens pulled out some change to give him money towards dry cleaning and Jericho said he needed another 25 cents. Owens said all he had was a Jolly Rancher. Jericho took that and told him leave his stuff alone and mind his business. Owens wished him luck against Zayn tonight and said he’d be out there to watch.

They showed a prerecorded incident where Miz confronted a group of superstars to find out who throw potato salad at Maryse during the July 4th party on Raw. Kalisto ended up challenging Miz to a match and Miz gave him the “Hasta la vista, baby” line from Terminator before walking off with Maryse.

The Miz defeated Kalisto via pinfall in a non-title match. At one point, Miz took it to Kalisto with forearms and knees to his back. He went for his corner clothesline but Kalisto got boots up, then hit a Tornado DDT. Kalisto hit the head scissors and had a near fall. He tried for Salida Del Sol with Miz able to power out of it. Kalisto tried a victory roll with Miz kicking out of that. From there, Kalisto tried a springboard twisting plant with Miz avoiding it. He followed with Skullcrushing Finale for the win.

They had a backstage interview with Sasha Banks. Charlotte came in with Dana to interrupt. Charlotte had on sunglasses like Sasha’s and Sasha asked where she got them. Charlotte told her at the discount Nicki Minaj dollar store. Dana said Sasha’s been lucky a few times, then challenged her to a match on Monday’s Raw. Sasha suggested tonight but Charlotte said she’s the Queen and she makes the rules. She mocked Sasha for her costume jewelry look and said she wars Rolexes and diamonds. Sasha said she’d have all the diamonds once she takes her title from her. Sasha told Dana she’d see her Monday.

They had a special announcement for Brock Lesnar’s opponent. Scott Stanford, Corey Graves and Booker T were all shown in a mock Sportscenter type studio. They quickly announced that Brock Lesnar will face Randy Orton for their first PPV meeting ever at SummerSlam 2016 and hyped up the match.

Sami Zayn defeated Chris Jericho via pinfall. Kevin Owens was on guest commentary. During the match, things went outside where Sami got on the barricade and hit a moonsault on Jericho. Zayn chased Jericho back into the ring but Jericho hit a forearm to the face before a commercial break. Later, Jericho and Owens traded punches in the ring as Owens talked about how losing to Zayn isn’t an option for him at Battleground. The match went to the outside and Zayn clotheslined Jericho down right in front of Owens. Later in the ring, Jericho hit a jumping Enziguri from the second rope. Zayn hit a tornado DDT and a tope con hilo on Jericho outside the ring. Outside, Owens tossed his water on Zayn, and then Zayn tossed Jericho at Owens. Back in the ring, Zayn hit the exploder suplex on Jericho and went for Helluva Kick. Owens got on the apron so Zayn kicked him off. Jericho went for Walls of Jericho but Zayn countered to roll him up for the win. Post-match, Jericho was back on his feet and surprised a celebrating Zayn with a Codebreaker. Jericho exited and Owens got in to hit a Pop-up Powerbomb on Zayn and stood tall as Smackdown closed.
