Welcome to WWE Smackdown results for the Thursday, April 21, 2016 episode of the weekly pro wrestling show. This week’s installment was held live this past Tuesday in London, England at O2 Arena and shown on television via USA Network Thursday evening. Among the superstars and divas appearing on the show were The Miz, AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Kalisto, Paige, Natalya and Dean Ambrose. Below are all of the match-by-match results, recaps and show highlights for WWE Smackdown.
The Miz hosted MizTV with AJ Styles as his guest. Miz’s wife Maryse was also part of the segment. During this in-ring show, Miz suggested that Styles asked his boys Gallows and Anderson for help in beating up Reigns this past Monday on Raw. Styles denied it and Miz kept suggesting he needs help to beat “The Guy.” Styles said he’s upset at what his friends did, but doesn’t need their help. Miz started delivering movie lines and then he and Maryse kissed a bit. Styles stood up acting irritated over what was going on in the ring. Miz came over to address him again about having help, but Styles punched and kicked down Miz. Maryse checked on her husband.
Ryback defeated Kalisto via pinfall in a non-title match. Kalisto had a chance at Salida del Sol but Ryback shoved him to the ropes and hit a Meathook Clothesline. Ryback prepared for Shell Shock but Kalisto reversed it into a DDT for a near fall. Kalisto got a spinning heel kick and went for Salida del Sol again, but Ryback reversed and hit Shell Shock for the win. Post-match, Ryback held up the U.S. title belt.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin was a no contest. Corbin attacked Ziggler outside the ring and laid him out with End of Days. He tells everyone “because I can,” when he gets asked why he did that.
AJ Styles defeated The Miz. The Miz tried to leave at one point, but Styles’ friends Gallows and Anderson came out to prevent Miz’s escape. Styles stared at the two friends of his after the match as if wondering why they did what they did.
Backstage, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows talked up their in-ring debut for Raw next week. They’ll take on The Usos in their first match for WWE.
Paige & Natalya defeated Naomi and Tamina via submission. At one point, Paige got in and had control of things. She hit Rampaige on Naomi and went for a cover but Tamina came in to break it up. Later, Natalya and Paige both put their submission holds on. Naomi tapped out to Paige’s move as Natalya had a Sharpshooter locked on Tamina at the same time.
R-Truth defeated Fandango. Goldust was the special referee for this match and wore a gold ref shirt. During the match, Fandango got an early hip toss and then did some gyrating dance moves. R-Truth hit a hip toss and then did some sort of hopping dance. The match broke down with Fandango and Goldust both gyrating in unison. Truth took exception to it and hit the Lie Detector on Fandango for the win.
Enzo Amore and Big Cass cut a promo about being in the tag team tournament finals. The Vaudevillians interrupted them and the two teams traded some verbal jabs at each other ahead of their match. Vaudevillians said they are the real men who will teach their fellow NXT tag team call-ups about manhood and proper speech.
Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho defeated Sami Zayn and Dean Ambrose. At one point, Ambrose low bridged Owens to drop him to the outside and then jumped out to the floor at him. Jericho started to get involved but was hit by a lariat. Back in the ring, Ambrose ducked a clothesline and connected with Dirty Deeds. Jericho broke things up. Zayn hit a Helluva Kick sending Jericho out of the ring. Owens then threw Zayn to the outside as Ambrose got on the top rope. Jericho crotched Ambrose on the ropes from outside the ring. Owens took a quick pinfall cover for the win. Smackdown closed with the heel team standing tall as the winners.
