Welcome to the WWE Raw results for the August 15, 2016 episode of the weekly professional wrestling show. This week’s installment was held live at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas and would continue the build towards SummerSlam 2016. Among the superstars expected to appear are Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and more. Below are all of the latest match-by-match highlights and WWE Raw results for this week’s show.
The show opened with Rollins outside the arena. He said he’s days away from becoming Universal Champion and has business with the “Demon King.” He called out Balor and then laughed when he didn’t show up. He said the Demon King is too scared to find him, so he’ll go find the Demon King.
Rusev and Lana were already in the ring for Raw. They talked about Roman Reigns ruining their historic wedding event and said they won’t allow Raw to happen until Reigns comes out to apologize. Mick Foley came out and tried to get them to leave the ring but they wouldn’t. Rusev called Stephanie to come out. She came out and backed up Foley’s requests, but Rusev said he demands respect. Reigns finally arrived out and apologized – that Rusev found the website where he met his wife and that they’ll have Sasquatch babies. Reigns said he didn’t feel like waiting until SummerSlam to fight. Rusev said the match will be for his wife’s honor. Foley said at SummerSlam it’s for the title but tonight he can fight Reigns for the respect for Rusev’s wife.
Sami Zayn vs. Sheamus
Late in the match, Zayn hit the Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. Zayn went for a Helluva Kick, but Sheamus caught him and hit the Irish Curse. Sheamus set up for his finishing move but Cesaro left his spot at the commentators table and went up the ring steps. The distraction allowed Zayn to hit the Helluva Kick on Sheamus for the win.
Winner: Sami Zayn defeated Sheamus via pinfall.
Backstage, Cesaro and Sheamus were bickering with several refs between them. Mick Foley said they’ve answered the questions he’s had about them but he won’t have them interfering in matches. He said they’ll compete in a Best of Seven series starting with a match at SummerSlam.
New Day vs. The Dudley Boyz
Prior to the match, Gallows and Anderson showed up on the big screen with more jokes about what they did to Big E and would do to Kofi and Woods. In the match, D-Von accidentally hit a clothesline on Bubba Ray at one point. Moments later, Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise on D-Von for the win. Post-match, Gallows and Anderson popped up on the big screen again. They said they were trying to figure out what ailed Big E. They said they’ll need more test subjects and had empty jars labeled Kingston and Woods next to the one marked “Big E.” Woods and Kingston got upset by it and said it’s not a joke because Big E was seriously hurt.
Winner: New Day defeated The Dudley Boyz via pinfall in a non-title matchup.
Rachel Levy vs. Nia Jax
During the match, at one point Jax sat Levy up on the top rope. The ref backed Jax away but then she lunged forward and shoved Levy, causing her to fall hard to the outside floor. Later, Jax was able to put away the challenger using her finisher.
Winner: Nia Jax defeated Rachel Levy via pinfall.
Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar made their entrance to the ring for a promo. They were soon interrupted by Heath Slater who came walking to the ring with a mic in hand. Heyman asked him if he’d been listening to those voices in Orton’s head. Slater talked up being the hottest free agent in sports entertainment and said he’s got another chance at a contract. He said all he has to do is beat Brock one-on-one. He begged The Beast for a match with Heyman and Brock laughing him off. Slater kept demanding it and as Heyman cut him off to start his introduction, Slater got on the apron and yelled.
Lesnar finally called for Slater to get into the ring with him. He said he understands his situation. Brock said he’s got kids too. He got up closer to Slater and told him he doesn’t give a (censored) about Slater’s kids. He told Slater he could leave on his own two feet or stand there and keep pissing him off. Lesnar dropped the mic. Slater started to leave, but then turned back to try to attack. Brock leveled him with a clothesline. He followed with German Suplexes and an F5.
Heyman talked up Slater for having guts to try to go against Brock. He said Orton just doesn’t measure up to Brock. He said “this is the summer of The Conqueror and The Beast is in heat.” He said at SummerSlam fans will be looking to see that once in ever athlete with an official result that goes down in the history books. He said SummerSlam is the fan’s chance to see The Beast in action, live.
Big Cass vs. Kevin Owens
Chris Jericho and Enzo Amore were at ringside for their tag partners. In the match, early on Owens set Cass out of the ring and Jericho hit a cheap shot on him. Owens rammed Cass into the ringpost ahead of a commercial break. Later, Cass began making a comeback. Jericho pushed Enzo into the ring steps, then took another shot at Cass on the outside causing a DQ finish. Jericho and Owens worked on Cass as Enzo was still down at ringside area.
Winner: Big Cass defeated Kevin Owens due to disqualification.
Tom Phillips was trying to interview Roman Reigns backstage. Suddenly Rusev showed up to attack Reigns from behind. Lana was seen watching from a distance as Reigns was able to fight back some. Rusev got the upper hand and threw Reigns into a garage door and some catering tables. Referees and WWE personnel had to step in to get Rusev away from the attack.
Primetime Players vs. The Shining Stars
Bob Backlund was ringside for PTP. At one point, O’Neil was on the apron and turned to crouch down to get some advice from Backlund. Young accidentally hit against the ropes area causing O’Neil to fall to the outside. Young hit a discus punch on Primo but Titus got back in the ring and hit Clash of the Titus on Young. O’Neil walked off and the Shining Stars got a pinfall win.
Winners: The Shining Stars defeated Primetime Players via pinfall.
Neville vs. Jinder Mahal
The match lasted just under three minutes. Late in the contest, Neville knocked Jinder down with a kick. He went up to the top rope. After a bit of time getting set up, Neville leapt off to hit the Red Arrow for the win.
Winner: Neville defeated Jinder Mahal via pinfall.
Backstage, Stephanie was informed by Foley that comedian Jon Stewart will be a guest appearing at SummerSlam on Sunday. Rollins came barging in and said if the Demon King wasn’t in there, he’s looked everywhere else. He asked for the night off. Foley suggested he go out to the ring and call out the Demon King. Rollins eventually agreed and left.
Rollins came out to the ring saying Finn Balor is trying to intimidate him since he’s scared of him. Rollins said the Demon King won’t come out and look him in the eyes because he’s terrified. A fan got in the ring and was quickly taken out of the ring. Rollins began talking again but suddenly Balor’s music hit and he made his entrance as The Demon King, complete with his painted face, body, headdress and fog smoke.
Once Balor was in the ring, Rollins was hesitant to step in with him. He finally did and went face to face. The fans chanted “This is awesome.” Rollins tried to take a swing but Balor took control eventually. He hit a running dropkick and went for a Coup de Grace but Rollins rolled to the outside. Balor hit a flip dive out on Rollins on the floor then rushed back into the ring as his music played.
R-Truth & Goldust vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson
Gallows and Anderson wore doctor’s lab coats to the ring. They brought down the three jars to the ring to mock Big E’s injury and future injuries for Kofi and Woods. In the match, Gallows broke up a pinfall that Goldust had on Anderson. Moments later, Anderson and Gallows teamed up to hit Magic Killer for the victory. Post-match, Kingston and Woods arrived to attack Anderson and Gallows. Kingston held Anderson’s legs apart and Woods grabbed the trombone to take a swing at his crotch. Gallows yanked Anderson from the ring to save him from any harm.
Winners: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson defeated Goldust and R-Truth via pinfall.
They had a backstage segment where Dana Brooke apologized to Charlotte for being banned from the ring. Charlotte asked why Dana failed her when it mattered the most. She said once she wins at SummerSlam she just might ask Stephanie to replace Dana with someone who’s not an epic failure.
Alicia Fox vs. Charlotte
WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks was on guest commentary. Charlotte eventually hit Natural Selection on Fox for the pinfall. Post-match, she motioned Sasha to get in the ring so the champ did. Dana Brooke ran in and tried to attack. The distraction allowed Charlotte to clip Sasha’s leg and take her down. Brooke stomped away at Sasha as Charlotte had Sasha in the Figure Eight. Eventually, some refs stepped in to get Charlotte to release the hold.
Winner: Charlotte defeated Alicia Fox via pinfall.
Roman Reigns vs. Rusev
Late in the match, Reigns went for a Superman Punch with Rusev blocking it. Rusev targeted a hurt arm on Reigns. He hit a spin kick to get a near fall on Reigns. After several other pin attempts, Reigns sent Rusev to the outside and went after him. He went for a move off the steps but Rusev delivered a kick on him. Once they were back in the ring, Reigns hit a Superman Punch for the near fall and looked frustrated. He went for another Superman Punch. Rusev cut him off with a shoulder block. Rusev put the Accolade on but Reigns reached the ropes to break it. Moments later, he hit a big spear for the pinfall win.
Winner: Roman Reigns defeated Rusev via pinfall in a non-title match.
