New SummerSlam championship match added

A new SummerSlam championship match has been added to the 2016 pay-per-view card following Tuesday’s Smackdown Live. On the latest episode from Buffalo, New York, Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan announced they would determine a new No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. While Dean Ambrose said he would fight anyone at any place and time, Shane and Bryan announced there would be a “Six Pack Challenge” for the main event of SmackDown to determine who would face Ambrose at SummerSlam 2016.Competing in the big match would be John Cena, AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt, Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler. With just five competitors announced for the match, a sixth man would be determined via a Battle Royal. That match kicked off the first SmackDown Live following the WWE Draft and featured pretty much everyone else on the roster competing for the spot.

As seen in the clip above, former NXT star Apollo Crews would go on to win the Battle Royal, eliminating Kane as the final man in the ring. Others in the final four included Sin Cara and Zack Ryder who both came up short in their attempts to gain the spot. With that, Crews grabbed the final spot in the Six Pack Challenge for later on.

In the main event, all of the competitors seemed destined for the big win at one time or another. Most fans were expecting either a John Cena or AJ Styles victory in the match. However, while Styles looked poised for a big win on the SmackDown show, it was Dolph Ziggler who ultimately grabbed victory from him.

With the win, Ziggler was said to have “shattered the glass ceiling” he’d been trying to bust through for some time now. Ziggler appeared to be stuck in the mid-card after months of proving his abilities in the ring. Now he’s headed to SummerSlam to take on WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose for the title!

With that, the Ziggler vs. Ambrose match joins two other huge matches on the SummerSlam 2016 card. They’ll include Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins for the new WWE Universal Championship and Randy Orton versus Brock Lesnar. The SummerSlam pay-per-view takes place on Sunday, August 21st from Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York.
