The WWE may be teasing a Mickie James return to the ring. The former WWE women’s wrestler is among 10 names the company recently posted on its website in a “10 Hottest Free Agents” article. The theme of the article is with regards to bringing some of the hottest free agents available to the Raw and Smackdown brands in the wake of the recent WWE Draft. Mickie James was one of the most surprising choices due to her status recently.
In the WWE Draft back in July, wrestlers were split up amongst the rosters of Raw and Smackdown. Some big names weren’t drafted, as they were basically out of action due to injury or their contract doesn’t have them appearing full time on the TV shows. Examples include The Undertaker and Nikki Bella, as Taker usually only shows up for a major pay-per-view like WrestleMania, and Nikki has been recovering from her neck injury/surgery and rehab.
Heath Slater was never drafted and it was played up as part of a story on the shows, where he’s like a free agent who gets try out matches against new competition. He’s already lost a contract opportunity to his former 3MB bandmate and has another match coming up on Smackdown against Rhyno. That said, he was not mentioned on WWE’s list of the hottest free agents.
WWE’s 10 Hottest Free Agents
On the WWE website, the 10 wrestlers mentioned as “hottest free agents” are as follows:
- The Rock
- The Undertaker
- Nikki Bella
- The Brian Kendrick
- Cryme Tyme
- Mickie James
- The Great Khali
Of the names mentioned, Rock, Undertaker and Nikki Bella have been working with WWE at major events over the past year or so, making them less of a surprise. The same would go for Tajiri and The Brian Kendrick, both of whom are involved in WWE’s ongoing Cruiserweight Challenge tournament. NXT star Bayley recently appeared on the Battleground pay-per-view as Sasha Banks’ tag team partner. Previous stars like Carlito, Great Khali and Cryme Tyme also could happen.
Could Mickie James return to WWE?
As for Mickie James, that’s an interesting consideration. James was seen in TNA Impact Wrestling for several years after she was released from WWE. James had her first child several years ago with fellow wrestler Nick Aldis aka “Magnus.” James was seen wrestling with TNA in July of 2015, and signed with Global Force Wrestling that same year.
She was last in the WWE in 2010 when they released her in April of that year, about three weeks after she was part of a 10-divas tag team match at WrestleMania XXVI. Bringing her back into the division would certainly be an interesting move, as there’s also been speculation that Melina might return to the ring. Adding those two veterans into the mix along with the newer divas like Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley could really rev up the women’s division that much more.
