Finn Balor was injured during Sunday night’s SummerSlam pay-per-view match in which he won the WWE Universal Championship. The news of the injury came up a day after Balor became first ever to win the new championship in Brooklyn, New York. While Balor appeared to be in good spirits on “Good Morning America,” later news wasn’t so positive for the brand new champion and one of Raw’s top draft picks.
It was a rough night for several of the Raw roster members including Finn Balor and Sasha Banks. Banks lost her title, and while Balor won his, it seems the reign will be shortlived. Balor suffered an injury that could set him back several months now.
The injury came at last night’s Universal Championship match at the Barclay’s Center. Balor reportedly hurt his right arm when Seth Rollins powerbombed him against the crowd barricade at ringside. WWE has since posted the video clip showing the exact moment when Rollins tossed Balor against the barrier.

As of right now, that’s bad news for Balor and his reign as champion. It had been reported that he would be medically evaluated during Raw tonight. The recovery timetable if Balor’s injury was deemed serious was around four to six months. A recent tweet from Mick Foley makes it seem that Balor’s reign will be just a day long.

Finn Balor is expected to appear at tonight’s Monday Night Raw, where it seems he’ll have to hand over the brand new championship. With that said, it should be interesting to see where WWE goes to determine a new champion. The next pay-per-view is a Smackdown exclusive event, WWE Battleground in Richmond, Virginia on Sept. 11, but there will be another pay-per-view two weeks later. Will Stephanie and Mick set up some sort of tournament to determine the contenders for the title?
As of right now, some of the top contenders would seem to be Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, and maybe Brock Lesnar. However, Brock’s actions at last night’s PPV against Randy Orton may have him suspended.
This is also the second devastating injury to sideline a Raw superstar recently. Sasha Banks lost her WWE Women’s Championship last night and will reportedly take a month off to recover from “nagging injuries.” Here’s to wishing Balor and Banks both speedy recoveries!
