The Big Show announced his WWE retirement date in a recent interview. The “World’s Largest Athlete” has said this will be his final year working with the company. He hasn’t been featured much lately on the television programs and doesn’t have anything scheduled for SummerSlam at this point. However, Big Show does have a big match coming early next year which will be the culmination of his longtime professional wrestling career.
On Thursday, WrestleZone reported that Big Show appeared on Miami’s 790 The Ticket for a recent interview. During his talk, Show noted that he’s been training to get in “the best shape of his life” in anticipation of his WrestleMania 33 match. That match will feature Show taking on another of the largest athletes in the world, Shaquille O’Neal. Show and Shaq met up during the ESPY Awards show in Los Angeles on the red carpet where they exchanged pleasantries and set the match up with a handshake.
It’s unknown if that will be his last official match, but Show wants to go out with a bang. There has been recent reports that Show will be involved in another “high profile” match when WWE does their upcoming live event from New York’s Madison Square Garden. Show will once again take on “The Beast” Brock Lesnar at MSG.
Show is currently 44-years-old and will have turned 45 by next year’s Mania. He’s been working in pro wrestling since 1995 when he debuted in WCW and came to WWE in 1999 making for a career spanning two decades. It should be interesting to see if he goes out on a high note by defeating Shaq in the match or if he allows the former NBA big man to record a WWE victory over him. Either way, Show will be a surefire entry into WWE’s Hall of Fame in the near future.
